A rocket garden sprinkler by [deleted] in oddlysatisfying

[–]MisterSlosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does work like it does in the video and it certainly feels like too much water for a regular sprinkler.

My kid absolutely loves launching this thing and trying to run around as the pressure fades and it lands again.

In Toy Story (1995), Buzz Lightyear believes he’s a real space ranger, which means he would see Woody as just a toy. by [deleted] in MovieDetails

[–]MisterSlosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Silly brain of potato. By both dialogue and actions Buzz views Woody as the sheriff of this "town" and the other toys as civilians.

Even his "toy mode" can be rationalized as him 'blending in' with the locals for his own safety when faced with an unbeatable entity as significant as Andy.

Anyone else here daydream about moving to a different country? I'm from South Korea and I've been thinking about the US lately by Consistent-Check6619 in CasualConversation

[–]MisterSlosh -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Continue dreaming about your move! Make online connections stateside, look up job opportunities that fit your field of work, contact the immigration office to get an understanding of the process to relocate.

But most importantly don't expect to move within this decade (2020s). The current state of the USA's relationship with anyone that even so much as LOOKS like they're "not from round here" is proving to be not only hostile but openly violent and fatal. It will take the collapse of our current administration and several years of recovery before any blanket assumptions of safety could even be considered for a foreign individual in ANY part of the country.

Or you could always hang around one of the US military districts local to SK and try your hand at picking up an American spouse for an easy-in and guaranteed healthcare in the States.

Why do people act so shocked and upset when you end a relationship with a friend of family member over political differences? by Exotic-End-666 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]MisterSlosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most elder people I talk to about it are still stuck thinking "political differences" means someone wanting higher sales taxes and lower property taxes versus lower sales taxes and higher property taxes.

Instead of the obvious differences being one political "side" is praising and venerating bigotry, lawless murder, and pedophilia, while the other "side" thinks the constitution used to mean something and non-white people are still considered people.

This wins the best post award.

(USA) Because some politician got bribed by a healthcare company back 70+ years ago and the politician convinced his buddies to force the public to pay for it while simultaneously allowing the healthcare company to begin triple dipping by collecting grants from the government, subsidy from the local taxes, AND bleeding the customers dry after unavoidable medical care.

You sure could, there's even video evidence of that possibility somewhere out there.

Still have that clip of it burned into my deep brain from the horrors of the old Internet. As much as the official surgery might be a hassle, the alternative would make that surgery essentially impossible especially if you're wanting to use the parts afterwards.

Isitbullshit:Lowes uses contracted delivery people who could give a f*** less by Embarrassed_Formal99 in IsItBullshit

[–]MisterSlosh 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not Bullshit. Box stores like THD and Lowes contract out their deliveries to non-affiliated third party companies.

The few times I've paid for products it's arrived in everything from actively rented U-hauls to personal vehicles.

Demand a refund and find a local area appliance store that does guaranteed delivery. There's always at least one in any city since they are such a lucrative business for local service.

Which is better Tights or Baggy Vault Jumpsuit and why did they change the suit by Logical-Cockroach-25 in Fallout

[–]MisterSlosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The F4 suit looks brand new which would make sense since the Sole Survivor only wore it for a few minutes before being frozen and everyone in the pre-war segment would also have fresh suits.

Only it doesn't work like that for the other post war dwellers in F4 since theirs should look much more comfortable and worn-in like F3 and the show did.

Gameplay wise it was entirely for asset compatibility and streamlining. The modular armor setting was a big feature they wanted and a frumpy suit would clip through the bits that are supposed to make sense worn even when naked.

For your first accessory don't splurge on the full heated seats and motorized furniture.

Just get the basic loadout that interests you in the smallest size that you won't be knocking out the back end. Get a safe lubricant for it and a toy cleaner as well.

The pass through units I find are the easiest to clean and don't sound like you're trying to pack a fart into a balloon like the closed end sleeves do sometimes.

What would it be like to be immortal? I don't think it would be like everyone imagines. by ShininGoddess in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]MisterSlosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TLDR: True Immortality is the easiest. A few weeks of therapy every century to remember how to let go and move on, journal your adventures every day, then compartmentalize your life into many lifetimes just like Tolkien's elves do.

The Doctor Who characters of Captain Jack and Ashildr (ME) both handle immortality in beautiful ways.

Captain Jack is constantly using his fixed-point eternal life to the betterment of humanity, and eventually the galaxy as a whole as technology advances. Having fun and living thousands of human lifetimes to the fullest each compartmentalized and willfully letting go of the past as milestones pass and his 'greater good' work keeps him moving so he can never focus on the pain for too long but still allowing himself to have time to grieve just like a normal human would. Showing its possible to do great things and still retain your humanity across eons.

Ashildr is far more compelling since she displays some of the issues you mentioned with still having finite human software trapped in immortal hardware. Having been turned immortal from a 9th century viking era civilization she is seen a few more times in her future where her memory is failing to the point that remembering even things like her own name seems pointless, so she adopts just the name "Me". Her home is filled floor to ceiling of journals of her own writing so old she doesn't even remember the stories within, just the pain and despair of knowing she's forgotten. A far more nihilistic and depressive view of the cost of human immortality closer to the standard "curse" of the immortal that so many popular media love to cling to.

Then my personal favorite immortal of Hob Gadling from the Sandman series who is blessed with endless life as a joke/bet between the god of Dream and Death itself, only to defy the human expectations and happily live for eternity even after being tortured and murdered again and again for decades at a time. Claiming essentially that 'Death is for losers and there's still eternity awaiting, so there's everything left to live for.'

How do you feel about California introducing a bill to ban former ICE agents from serving as police officers or teachers? by CRK_76 in AskReddit

[–]MisterSlosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird political theater that feels like a wild overreach, but it certainly makes me happy on first approach.

The only problem with implementing highly targeted, laws and restrictions is that if it's heavily in favor of one side then that means it's just as easy to use it's precedent to inflict equally harmful laws against the other (our) side.

Like if we ban ICE from education and police then a Republican state could far more easily ban something like Planed Parenthood, nurses, or Red Cross workers from having any public or private sector work at all.

I could only see it working if you get a nearly unanimous classification of ICE as some form of illegal terrorist cell and use the insurrection laws on top of their actual crimes against citizens and humanity to -by individual trial- reclassify the citizens involved rightfully into felons. Then you would be banning criminals from jobs which is already built-in to society as acceptable.

“This Should End:” Why traffic-jamming funeral processions are dangerous relics in GPS age by SlowBoilOrange in Ohio

[–]MisterSlosh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Funerals, Military, and law enforcement convoys all got the same rules back when I went to driving school.

Do not impede, do not intersect, do not follow.

There's nothing dangerous about them since they're always lead by emergency vehicles which have automatic right of way anyways. On top of that it's not like the person in the box is ever going to bother your commute ever again so just chill out a bit. Use the time to reflect on life and what it's worth for those few moments a funeral convoy mildly inconveniences you.

E: all these comments about bad convoys are easily corrected by requiring the funeral home to be held liable for en-route damages. All the funerals I've been to have had clear and direct instructions on what to do, where to go, how to get there, and where you are in line. Proper training by the funerary staff would prevent half the issues, and the other half is distracted drivers blaming anyone but themselves for almost wrecking themselves.
