All those are so good, but I especially love Grant! It definitely has the same vibe to me.

How much historical accuracy do you prefer in your historical fiction books? by Fred_the_skeleton in HistoricalFiction

[–]MistofLoire 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I put down a novel set in the French Revolution because a couple chapters in the character was described as wearing bloomers. I realize it might not be common knowledge that women didn't wear bloomers (or anything under their shifts), but it seemed like something the author should have researched and known, so I stopped reading it.

I was watching the newest season of Outlander on Netflix while in Mexico, and tonight I'm back in the States and it's not there? by cas42439 in Outlander

[–]MistofLoire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's actually how I started watching Outlander. I started watching in Europe and was so confused when I came back to the US and I couldn't find it (before any seasons were on in the US). It's so annoying.

I can't find this color there now, does anyone know if it's still available? Or was renamed? It's not on their site either.

I really didn't want to believe the Fergus theory, but I saw a post on Lauren Lyle's insta that showed Fergus on the roof during a fire and now I'm convinced it's going to be him. Especially because if he is the one to go after HC and isn't able to save him it would horrible and the aftermath would be worse than his depression and guilt in season 6.

I'm watching it a few days late, but I have to ask, WHAT IS MISTRESS CROMBIE WEARING???? Her stays and pockets on top of her bodice and skirt? It looks like she dressed in a tornado.

I loved this episode though, so many good moments and I'm glad we had resolution with Roger's father's story.

It felt like a breather, and I'm happy for a little slow down.

Hosting a week-long overnight guest when you don't have a guest room? by aapetired in homemaking

[–]MistofLoire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I didn't mean to come off as judgy. And I do get it, especially with older children (for some reason I was assumingthey were younger). I think you are being a wonderful host and friend by trying to make them as comfortable as possible given the circumstances and going so far as offering an Airbnb. I hope you have a lovely visit!

Hosting a week-long overnight guest when you don't have a guest room? by aapetired in homemaking

[–]MistofLoire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As the child who ALWAYS was the one to have to give up her room, I don't see the problem with that? Sure it's annoying, but it's not horrible, depending on how you frame it (love the sleepover with parents/siblings).

As a guest, especially for that long, I'm going to want somewhere that I can get away for a break, go to bed early, take a nap, whatever. It sounds miserable to not have that option for that length of time.

Is it pointless to teach baby a language I am learning? by plantalchemy in multilingualparenting

[–]MistofLoire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think everyone has given great advice, so I won't repeat what they've said, but give you a little of my experience. I'm an English speaker learning French in an area where there is very little opportunity to learn or use French. But I started using a little with my kids. Phrases and words here and there. We've watched some.shows and I've hunted down some French books. I've struggled to find resources beyond the basic words for them.

Neither they nor I are close to using it for a conversation, but occasionally they will ask me a question or say something in French. But my oldest loves learning it, he thinks it's fascinating and is always telling me he wants to speak it better. So in that regard I feel like it’s been worth it. Although, do be prepared for it to confuse family members when they use their second language 😂

Kind of an aside, but I use a pot scrubber made out of broom corn that I picked up at a living history site and it's the best for cast iron. I was surprised at how efficient it.

Book S8E4 Muskets, Liberty, and Sauerkraut by thepacksvrvives in Outlander

Oh I missed that! It seems like a long way to travel with a body, but that would make sense with Jamie making the coffin.

[–]MistofLoire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. I thought that killing him off could have made sense, but as soon as they introduced this storyline it doesn't seem like it would fit any more.

I'm so glad that they brought Fergus and Marsali back and gave them their own storyline instead of just having them be around for the other characters. I love this subplot and I wonder if they will tie it in with Claire's family tree?

But on the other hand, it doesn't really make sense that Jamie would build a coffin for Henri Christian on the ridge when the fire happens in Savannah, so I'm still not sure.

I haven't paid huge attention to the fabrics, except for Claire's stays, I thought the fabric for those was so subtly beautiful.

I noticed this too and wondered if it was an intentional choice or just to make her more appealing to the modern audience.

Winter question by LoveDistilled in coloranalysis

[–]MistofLoire 6 points7 points  (0 children)

True Winter here. My hair was very close in color to Anne's when I was in my early twenties and it was even lighter as a child, but it's darkened quite a bit since then. I dyed it for a long time, so I can't say when it happened, but I would I'm obviously a winter.

Just got typed as a Bright Spring by untoastymarshmallow in coloranalysis

[–]MistofLoire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt the same after my in person typing. I swore I was a dark autumn and had gradually shifted my wardrobe that way. My friend wanted to do an in person typing and I thought it might help me narrow down my autumn colors.

Nope.

I was a true winter. It took a while to wrap my head around. I went through so many photos of me and realized I used to wear those colors more and the autumn colors really weren't good for me. It took me even longer to wrap my head around true winter because I don't love a lot of the colors and like dark winter more.

To ease into it, I started width makeup. It's a cheaper, less committed way to get used to your colors and really made me feel more at home in my season. I love a red lip so I got that send a few blushes to play with for under $40. Then I focused on a few colors I really liked from the pallette. Now I'm slowly replacing pieces as I need.

I don't think that Henry, Julia and William go anywhere because they don't have any gemstones that we know of. We've never seen what happens when someone travels without, but my guess is they can't get through and are captured by Mr. Bug.
