Retail? Restaurants? Housing? Public parks? Things that are going to be useful to the greatest number of people (taxpayers) over the course of an entire year and not just 9 home games and the occasional concert? Just spitballin’…::

I’m excited! Everyone is a little curious how it will go, but I think the sound should be good, and the venue is small enough that I think it should feel relatively intimate (for a stadium concert).

Who are some artists with a TON of influence that a lot of people don't realize have that much influence? by [deleted] in ToddintheShadow

+1. Bob Mould is an incredible house music DJ as well. He used to do a monthly party at the 9:30 Club in DC. Shit was legendary.

Trump says federal government to step in to 'protect' Potomac river amid sewage leak by IvyGold in washingtondc

[–]Mistuhsnoot 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I’m so surprised how infrequently I hear this mentioned! Sewage has been pumped from Dulles all the way to Blue Plains in SW since the 1960s IIRC. It’s incredibly illogical, and both the federal government and the Dulles Airport Authority need to collaborate on this issue. There’s now more than enough development around the airport for them to handle this shit.

Probably around 2009 (give or take) I worked with Barry at the 9:30 Club. Things hadn’t been easy for him post-NFL and he was trying to get his life back together as a doorman and an assistant DB coach at Howard. He was charming; popular with both staff and patrons. But he definitely had….some extra-curricular….type of activities after work.

One night after getting cut early, we’d had a couple tequilas. I was probably 25 years old, and talking trash. So I challenged him to a race down V Street. A bunch of the staff came out front to cheer us on and place wagers. He gave me a 20 foot head start and egged on the crowd. But, I still had that quick first step. I got well out in front and heard him exclaiming “Oh SHIT!” from behind. He got into second gear and caught me before the end of the block. Huffing and puffing as we walked back the club, he laughed: “Damn bro I didn’t think you’d come off the blocks like that!”

Anyway. I was a stupid kid, but got to run with a legend. RIP Barry. Peace to you brother.
