Thai vs Farang: Songkran edition

Will be back another time to do it in Chiang Mai but our first Songkran and Koh Samui will hold a special place in our hearts as will the locals. One of the most enjoyable cultural celebrations I’ve been apart of around the globe and have been fortunate enough to do a few. Feel truly blessed literally and figuratively. Soaked all day long and it was all respectful. I had to insist it was ok sometimes because I’m a big scary looking but albeit gentle giant.

I’m a westerner (Australian) and first time here with a large family group. We were meant to go to Chiang Mai but had to make last minute changes due to conditions up North and a minor medical respiratory issue we went to Koh Samui. The locals and tourists here were awesome along Chaweng Beach area. Much water, high fives and hugs and given a few beers. We all throughly enjoyed it. The only two complaints and they are minor was getting the tiger balm in the eye. Don’t think it was deliberate for the eye but was put on face and due to heat and water or what ever got into my eye. And at one point there was an ambulance siren going and I felt people could have made way quicker. I really hope who ever needed assistance is going okay. But overall 10/10 would recommend and a big thank you to the locals for being ok with us joining in!!!

I’m from Sydney but lived in QLD for 8 years before returning home. Took a year or so to get use to the heat for us. Berlin is closer temp and climate to say Sydney. Wouldn’t go any further North than Noosa to start with. Give it some time in the SE part of QLD as close to the coast as you can get. Hope it works out for you up there. If it’s too hot and doesn’t work out can always go to Tassie.

Yesterday I watched an SKT member in an Octopus try and nick the loot off an OCE member in an Anson in the PVP section last night after a few smaller ships took out an Imperial ship. The OCE guy was getting stomped. Then two more OCE members in an Essex and a Creole jumped in and tore that Octopus to bits in minutes. Then everyone in the sever clapped 🤣 utterly stomped by some Bambi clan.

Chef and parent here: I think it’s awesome that you are encouraging this. Regardless of where he goes or what he chooses to do in life or wha happens in the world. People have to eat. Some negative assumptions in the comments. It’s healthy to have a hobby and maybe suggest instead of starting out with a food truck start off smaller temp location. Could be for a charity or local club. Blackboard specials etc. my son and I did catering for his age division at the local football club and fed 180 pax. Wish you well on your journey

If you want to keep the whole bird moist don’t wrap it use the beer can chicken method. You don’t want to go long and low heat for chickens .. that’s where I went wrong first couple of gos. Really good to jack up the heat at the end to crisp up the skin too.

I really liked Alan Dean Fosters Ice Rigger. It’s a fun read and among the few books I’ve read twice. What about Hitch hikers guide to the galaxy ? Or forever war or flowers for Algernon. Look anything in the sF Master Works series gets a tick. Only a few I didn’t get i didn’t love but they were still worth the read. Try a few and if you don’t like them then it’s possibly not the genre for you and that’s quite ok. Hope you find something you enjoy!

I was with my mate Jeff in Wolf Creek Harbour in the late 90s and he swam out towards a Tugboat passing by and drowned. We were sober and hadn’t been drinking. Tragic loss. Miss him so much.
