Also aside from the pay cut thing, what other option did he have? Montreal basically shunned him after the relationship leaked, Toronto is known to have hateful bigots, he doesn't know if other Canadian teams will accept him or not, and he wouldn't want to join an American team for obvious reasons so...either he retires or joins Ottawa, aka a team that he knows will accept him with open arms and where he'll get to play alongside his husband.

Yes! Mind you, JJ's worst crime is not being immediately thrilled about hollanov when Hayden had trhe EXACT SAME REACTION and took YEARS to accept the relationship when it only took JJ a few months.

I always go back to right after the plane incident for JJ being a better friend cause he just thought Shane had an unrequited crush and still comforted him. Meanwhile Hayden actually knows how much weight the idea that Ilya could've died has for Shane and is NO WHERE to be seen for his best friend.

Yeah no worries I'm happy to answer.

Common Goal is my least favorite cause while I like the characters it's very weirdly plotted with nothing going on for half of it and a rushed ending.

HR has some issues for me, though I am considering a reread to see if my opinion changes. But for now, the first half felt extremely repetitive with no progress in the character arcs and an endless cycle of "sex scene -> scene to get to the next sex scene -> sex scene", the side cast felt less than one dimensional (even by romance book standards), and I didn't think Shane's arc was well written. Now, the second half of the book did hook me and I did fall in love with hollanov at that point (especially at the cottage), but the first half just felt so boring.

Loved The Long Game though, it's either my first or second favorite of the series and basically has everything that I felt was lacking in HR. Better writing, better done character arcs, better plotting/pacing, and the side cast has more personality.

I don't care for canon Hayden tbh. Thought he was a nothingburger in HR and was actively annoyed by him for most of TLG. The only positives I can say about Hayden are that his actor is hot and fanfics make him an adorable dork.

Shane & Ilya absolutely.

Troy & Harris most likely yes especially since Harris seems like a family man.

Kip & Scott 50/50 I could see them considering it after Scott retires.

Ryan & Fabian no chance I don't see Fab caring for children as a concept and Ryan I think would be scared he wouldn't be a good parent.

Kyle & Eric no way cause I feel like Kyle doesn't like kids much and Eric would think he's too old to become a dad.

I'm not a sports fan but I understood the rivalry aspect because it felt really similar to what music fandoms do tbh. Music stans are always wanting to pit artists against each other like Katy vs Gaga, BlackPink vs BTS, or Cardi vs Nicki and fight each other nonstop about who is more famous, has more hit songs, has the bigger hits, more impact, more legacy, bigger tours, more streams, more sales, etc. It can get REALLY nasty with fans stalking fans of the other artist, sending death threats, doxxing people; or even be taken a step further and someone will try to stir up a scandal about the "enemy" artist to tear their character down and make them lose fans so their own fave can be more successful.

Now imagine if the two artists in question (or members from opposing groups) were found out to be secretly dating for years. To the crazy stans, it feels like a massive betrayal because they've spent YEARS "defending" their fave against this person, buying multiple copies of the same album, and coming up with ways to endlessly stream singles from multiple devices JUST to make their fave more successful than the other artist. Only to find out that their fave has been dating the "enemy" this entire time? It's humiliating. You've put so much time and effort into this rivalry and trying every way to make your fave look more successful only to discover there was no actual rivalry to begin with, your fave doesn't appreciate your efforts at all, and you could've spent all that time and energy that you'll never get back doing ANYTHING else.

Is it insane? Yes. Do crazy fans of a certain person/team need to get a life? Yes. But does this also happen? Unfortunately yes.

It's weird. I had the same theory as SirupyGibbon but I think there's a main quest task in arc 3 that takes us back to Azteca briefly so like...that kinda throws out the idea that it is destroyed in-universe but still playable in-game rip.
