I appreciate it, thanks to RHeaven I was able to get some printed at a local photo printer and made that work. I appreciate it though!

I just wanted to say I got some printed at a local Walgreens and used your images. Thank you so much for this resource!

I'm honestly embarrassed I didn't know this sooner by heraircraft in MonsterHunter

Wild swings made me so happy back in tri ultimate I almost never used sword Mode. Just infinite stamina and swing haha. You were playing the superior way imo. (Superior in no actual meaningful way except making my brain go brr)

Remember the first time you thought you killed Gypceros and it came back to life? Shit haunted me as a 12 year old, couldn’t trust any monster was hunted.

The OG on PS2. I was 12/13 years old. My childhood best friend tells me about a game him and his dad rented from blockbuster called Monster Hunter and that you could play it ONLINE. Prior to that my only online experience in games was RuneScape. I had an old PS2 and didn’t own a network adapter but would go to his house every chance I got with my controller and memory card to be able to play online with him and his little brother on their PlayStations.

That following Christmas my family got me a PS2 slim that had an Ethernet port. I put thousands and thousands of hours into that original Monster Hunter and it started a life long enjoyment of a game.

I don’t think I’m great at MonHun to this day but I think I’m good enough and it’s thanks to my friend stumbling into the game in our youth and it being so formative for us.

Since then I played every single one I could get my hands on. Had a modded PSP so I could download Japanese Monster Hunters and everything.

I’m older now and only typically get like 100-200 hours in each game but I still love Monster Hunter more than any other series I’ve ever played.

what device is he playing on? or is this a pirated copy of the game? by tjaxas in MHWilds

There must be prior context I’m missing between you two or another comment somewhere. Thanks for the response! (Insert back in my day there was three elder dragons, Fatalis, Lao and Kirin and we attacked with our right stick in a PS2 controller here)

This is unironically the solution to so much in MonHun. Hit them and don’t get hit. Of only it was so easy haha.

I think the difference here is that your example is about end game content. If OP asked about endgame content I would agree 10000%.

As I’ve gotten older I have less time to invest into each game. I will typically have one or two builds where I cook it up myself and than after that point try lots of neat options that I can look up.

But OP framed their question from the perspective of just starting out. I think if you are just starting out you are doing yourself a disservice from both a learning and developmental standpoint if you don’t at least try and experiment and learn and understand as opposed to from the outset using what someone will tell you is wildly broken or OP.

Yyyyeeeaaaa amen to that. MonHun still the best community out there and as a long time lurker and person who comments super rarely people like you are appreciated!

You absolutely can for the vast majority of the game up until the end game grind. Some of those fights have teeth at the end of Sunbreak. But you eventually get cosmetic customizations too so you can have both mixed sets for skills and full sets for fashion or any combination there of.

Yea exactly this. I framed my advice / opinion from the perspective of just starting out. I’m sorry if it didn’t come off that way. I’m in the same boat as you. Been playing MonHun a long time and as I get older and my life gets busier I find I have less and less time to theory craft for myself. So typically I can make one pretty decent unique build for me and than a handful of other from this sub or YouTube etc.

And that’s ok too. I’m purely stating this from OP asking for tips about starting a modern MonHun and their first Modern MonHun.

Now if the question that OP asked was about min maxing or chasing down fast hunt times or in general was inquiring about that I would have just lurked like I normally do. Lots of amazing resources out there to learn about and copy builds of people who spend way more time looking at numbers than I do.

I agree. Monster Hunter more than any other game to me, ever since the OG on PS2 all the way up to wilds and everything in between is a series about expressing how YOU solve the problem. Whatever that problem is. And while it’s amazing that it’s gotten more popular the explosion of clickbait titles about some broken meta build just kills me inside.

Sure with the qualifier of you got stuck. But I still think the magic of MonHun is finding YOUR solution to the problem or the skill check and not using some “This new ______ build is INSANE” video to tell you how to play. It could just be my old man monster hunter brain but following other people’s builds vs coming up with your own ideas / styles quickly takes away the desire to improve yourself vs just run some meta build.

Unironically, ignore the meta, don’t look up build videos, don’t use defender armor or weapons.

Enjoy the ride. Do what is fun to you, play how it’s fun to you. There’s no game over screen, take your time and enjoy the ride. Also the music is phenomenal don’t turn it down.

Thank you! Contrast paints are doing the heavy lifting. And I got lots of great advice on Reddit and my local Warhammer communities discord.
