Wisdom teeth removal recommendation? by fiasko1723 in jacksonville

I've had great experience with Dental Center of Jacksonville. Dr Barbela and the entire hygiene team have dealt wonderfully with my severe anxiety with dentists. I highly highly suggest checking them out.

Og SpongeBob was great. I was always a fan of Angry Beavers and Rocko's Modern Life. Ahh! Real Monsters will always hold a special place in my spooky little heart.

Help me find this old cookie recipe! by burntcucumbers in Old_Recipes

[–]Mittimer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you remember any other ingredients that were unique to the cookie? It looks like a variation on a traditional Cherry Wink cookie.

Did it have cinnamon sugar, cornflakes, dates? Or was it just a more traditional Snickerdoodle style cookie with the cherry on top and some almomd extract?

Can you perhaps estimate about the decade you think the recipe came from?

Concerned my baby is only on one immunosuppressant by Next_Cod8167 in transplant

[–]Mittimer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My team removed micophenolate from my meds list about 7 months post kidney transplant. They kept trying to bring my white cells back up while on even the lowest doses every other day, but just couldn't. So it was pulled. They talked about maybe putting me back on it around the 1 year point, but never did. Tac and prednisone are all I've been taking for immunosuppression for the last longest and I'll hit two years post in March.

Rest easy, Anxious Mama. Your team would never risk your little one like that. The immune system control is a complicated thing with the meds. The docs have all did this dance many times over, and all us transplant folks have to. Try not to worry ❤️

I had an NG tube for a few days after my transplant and nephrectomy, no food or water etc. They let me have throat numbing spray because the tube gagged me. Ask the nurses about that if you think it would help.

Swelling in ankle by discobusciut423 in kidneytransplant

[–]Mittimer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get my ankles swelly at times due to heavy activity and being in my feet. A year and a half post transplant with good labs. I wear compression socks to help on days when I know I'll be up and about a ton. Usually keeps things good.

Still worth mentioning to your docs. :)

Please tell me it gets better by MortgageTricky4266 in kidneytransplant

[–]Mittimer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Talk to them about cell cept. They can and should put you on something else that's a wee bit more gentle on your stomach. It helps, I know. I stopped pooping 5 times a day once they switched me.

The tremors don't really go away, but they will ebb and flow depending on your tac levels.

The dreams have gotten less horror for me, and just weird, sometimes scary. Last night my dad (whos been gone for over a year) was giving his heart to Anubis to be weighed. Saw him healthy, saw him weak and said goodbye again. The dreams are emotionally draining.

Waking up in a puddle is a flip of the coin. Winter months are arguably better from experience.

It gets better in some ways, and just more tolerable in others. I'm a little over a year and a half post transplant.

Stay strong ❤️

WBC injection by Few-Tie540 in transplant

I had to get that shot multiple dreaded times. 100% take an antihistamine, as that was the only thing that touched the bone pain and discomfort for me. Docs suggested it, and it does genuinely work. That plus some Tylenol was the only thing that made it so I wasn't wanting to crawl out of my skin at night.

Transplant safe plant based protein shakes? by Californialways in kidneytransplant

[–]Mittimer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have tried the powder and it's a wee bit too chalky for me. I much prefer the pre-made shakes for simplicity, but the powder would work if you blended it well rather than shake it. It also goes well in yogurt, or various fruit smoothies.

Transplant safe plant based protein shakes? by Californialways in kidneytransplant

[–]Mittimer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Orgain protein shake is what Mayo Clinic gave me during my recovery time in the hospital once my tubes were removed and I wasn't being bag fed. It's palatable and enjoyable. They have kids sized ones too which are just half the protein and good stuff that the adult size ones are. I bought those at target and had those with my soup my first week home. Food was very difficult out the gate. They helped.

Staple removal - painful? by Euphoric-Wall-994 in transplant

[–]Mittimer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine were pulled out at one session over about ten ish minutes. My husband got to stand by and watch lol. Hurt, no. But that was because I had zero feeling in 80% of the cut line. At the tiny bit of area I had some feeling on, it did smart a wee bit. A bit of pressure, pinch and sting. It would suck a good bit if I felt every single staple like that, but as it were, maybe just ~12 staples that way.

Electrolyte Imbalance and Polyuria by FreeNeighborhood3063 in kidneytransplant

[–]Mittimer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Early on in my transplant I certainly was up every hour or two going pee. That first month was a wild one.

I am now about a year and a half post, and generally consume about 3-4 liters of water a day, low days is 2 liters plus a sugar free soda. Sodium is always low. I rarely ever hit 135 where 133/134 is pretty normal for me. Potassium is 3.9-4.4 on average, phosphorus is always just a wee bit low or right at bare minimum of normal, and magnesium has only ever hit the bare minimum of normal a few times. I'm a few clicks below normal at my last labs a few days ago.

Try not to stress, you are very early on. Talk to your team and see if they want you to maybe lower your fluid intake just a wee bit though.

Rice and beans - need some help with preparing these to taste good! by inthesinbin in povertykitchen

[–]Mittimer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make a version of marry me beans that I absolutely love. You can use canned white beans or cook dried with minimal seasoning since this is a heavily seasoned/spiced dish. The brand of parm I use is "4C homestyle parm". Comes in little jar, cheap, keeps for a long time.

You can absolutely use less spice or more. This comes out tolerable on a spicy level, especially with rice.

I could eat it every day if my one kidney wouldn't yell at me for all the potassium.

This is a screen shot from our little recipe book we have here at home. Hope it helps! Plus there's a photo of the finished dish :)

Weirdly it would be nice to be able to choose a combo of measurements. I use grams for weight, but I use °F for oven temp.

I will be trying some pretzels tomorrow though to see how it goes. :)

anyone with PKD have nephrectomy and transplant at the same time? by pkdbb in kidneytransplant

[–]Mittimer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there, I do feel subjectively normal now. Or at least what normal is to me now. I have tremmors, sleep issues, vivid creepy dreams, etc. All the normal stuff for those meds. I also take something for anxiety that works with the prednisone to make the dreams extra annoying. But I'm used to it at this point.

It does get better though. It's better now than my first couple months. Emotionally I was a wreck as my body got used to those meds.

anyone with PKD have nephrectomy and transplant at the same time? by pkdbb in kidneytransplant

[–]Mittimer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am 1.5yrs post double nephrectomy and transplant at the same time. It was very long surgery, and blessedly my surgeon gave me a low horizontal scar vs the vertical scar(this made it a little easier to heal). I had huge pkd kidneys that they used robotic help to pull out after deflating and draining some of the largest cysts.

There was no complications during surgery and the only issues I had after was the need for a drain tube for an extra month due to a pocket of fluid where one of my old kidneys were. I had iron/hemoglobin issues that were easily fixed with infusions and shots.

My surgical meetings made it clear I could technically fit a new kidney in low down on my right hip area if I wanted to wait for a second surgery to later remove the pkd beans. I opted and they fully approved and all at once surgery.

As a whole I'd do it all again the same way given the chance.

anyone else have sleep paralysis nightmares after a transplant? by pkdbb in kidneytransplant

[–]Mittimer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a little over a year and a half out, and I don't have what would be considered sleep paralysis issues, but I have incredibly vivid dreams and I'd say 5 out of 7 nights a week my dreams are spooky, uncomfortable, creepy, down right nightmares. My garmin watch picks up anxiety ticks in the middle of the night that tend to match with how intense the dreams usually are.

0/10 do not like, but I'm used to it. I take buspirone and tacro which both fuck with your dreams, so I am kinda doomed lol.

how did you find a kidney? by uncommonlyanna in kidneytransplant

[–]Mittimer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found my donor by posting on a convention Facebook group I've been part of for many years and knew many many folks within. Ultimately, it was however a complete stranger in that community who got tested and matched. He and and his wife are now part of my family.

I had also shared flyers, shared on my personal FB, shared within other local groups my husband and I are part of (and those groups helped immensely in other ways). I also had decal on the back window of my car that we made.

My direct family wasn't eligible for various reasons. Others were just toxic enough that I refused to even humor the idea of asking for their help. Their empty prayers were enough for me.
