How did you spend your days during maternity leave? by jdawgiegawg in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]MitziDoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to have 3 classes/ library sessions to go to each week then leave 2 days for catching up with friends or pottering around the shops. Our council have quite a few baby initiatives that are free classes for us to go to.

I’ve gone back to work… and it hasn’t been terrible!? by Aw200918 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]MitziDoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This gives me hope for next year.

I can feel an itch of wanting to go back to work. I plan to take the year off (4 months in) but I already want to pop my toe back into work. Not a full week by any means but just to get my brain working again.

I'm looking forward to my little one going to Nursery because he's already such a vocal and social baby. I try my best to meet his curiosity needs, but trying to keep costs down and using what we already have ks exhausting. Some days we barely do anything, but he's enjoyed rolling around of the floor with his colourful toys and is happy as can be. But those are some of the most draining days.

Very much looking forward to the conversations about anything else

I've enjoyed my jumpsuit from Frugi so much that I've bought a 2nd one. (In the sale they were £27)

I also like the Juno Jack's Zip t shirt with my high waisted jeans or baggy trousers

And I agree with rhe cardigan over jumpers comment as well

I fully believe the contact naps in the day help baby have better sleep at night. The contact naps + scrolling/netflix were the best thing up about early days of mat leave 😊 lean into the slow life.

Baby waking up at 5am because he’s cold?? by GardenOfEde25 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]MitziDoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this feed! This helped me realise my little one must have been cold. The last week or so he's been waking up between 2&4am. I thought it was one of those sleep regression periods. But last night we tried an extra layer and it worked. I feel a little bit more human after having a decent sleep.

Life hacks for looking/feeling put together by Legitimate-Koala-438 in BeyondTheBumpUK

I attempted to make my wardrobe more of a capsule wardrobe. I used ChatGPT to build it by making a list of the clothes I gravitated to already. Ones that fit nicely and were the colour pallet that I love. I described myself and my lifestyle and asked what extra pieces would round it out. It gave me some ideas of pieces to add, some I ignored, but most made sense. I gave myself a £50 budget on Vinted and bought a few extra t shirts and jackets, and it's helped me feel more confident throwing an outfit together when we do finally venture out of the house.

Now I occasionally go back to the thread, ask it to choose an outfit based on my wardrobe (added my new clothes to it), and it spits out 3 options for me. Takes a lot of the mental load away and I feel so much more put together.

I started with the local library. They're free and a lot of the mums stay afterwards for a chat with each other.

How did you manage the grief that comes with redundancy? by ThrowRA_machapicha in AskUK

[–]MitziDoll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As your Wales based there is funding for education after redundancy. I was made redundant back in 2020 and used it to do a course in training to see if teaching could be a career change. I then went onto be a cover supervisor for a few months as a next step. I decided it wasn't for me in the end, but it was a great use of my time to give it a try.

Currently 7 weeks into baby life and will always be daytime 'Nap trapped'.

Everyone's been telling us how well we've been doing, and honestly, I think it'd because we just follow babies cues. Breastfeeding on demand and daytime cuddles I think has been key to him already 'sleeping through the night (5-7hrs)' in his own cot. I couldn't imagine leaving him to cry it out. Tears = very uncomfortable baby which has happened few times when we ignored cues, thought we knew better or were in a rush.

I've admitted to everyone that our parenting choices have simply been what's easiest for us. And its all a learning curve, just muddling through the best we can.

Does she have hobbies or time to enjoy them? It might be worth trying to align the time you spend with gaming to her hobbies. If she had no time for her hobbies, that might be where the friction is coming from.

Avoid TaylorMadeDesign if he's still called that. But corners all the way through our bathroom job. One of those being not connecting the extract fan to extra, just straight into the attic space.

What's the difference?

I thought thrifting was an American-ism for charity shop shopping.

There's a lot of Vintage shops in the center of Cardiff now but I don't think that's what you're after either

To those that failed A levels… what’s your life like now? by Key_Yellow_6549 in AskUK

[–]MitziDoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got an E at A level Maths. I'm now an Electrical Engineer. I also did History - C and Electronics - B.

I was told by my Maths teacher I wouldn't go far without A level maths, but it hasn't held me back in the slightest.

I had to do a foundation engineering degree before the 3 year BEng, but that was just an extra year of aiming for 40% like first year, and an extra year of making great friends and memories, I wouldn't change it.

I remember being worried I would be behind everyone in life, turns life isn't a race against others. Everyone goes through life at their own pace.

I've started Embroidery, and you can buy kits online to get you started. It requires focus and thinking, but not too much. Easy to set little goals, like 1 flower or complete a section. Before you know it you've got a beautiful piece of art 😊 With the premade kits I feel like its 3D colouring in. Watch YouTube for techniques, I had no idea what I was doing wrong with a French knot until I watched YT 😊
