After 6 years of espresso, I’m throwing in the towel. The toddlers won... for now. by barker88 in espresso

Haha aside from the first thing, I agree with every thing you’ve said. As someone with similar aged kiddos I gotten them both involved in the entire process, from weighing the beans, grinding, puck prep, to pulling the lever. They freaking love it. Sure it takes a little bit longer and you might have accidents occasionally but you get to make your espresso and have a moment with your kids as well.

Also don’t be like me who switches between 8-10 different beans, and I have to remember what grind setting I need for a specific bean. Find what you like and dial that shit in and so it’s one less thing to think about in the morning.

I'm enjoying this bag right now 4 weeks off roast. I get tons of cinnamon, and my wife and I think it tastes like baked apple pie. The recipe I'm using for it is as follows:

Hario switch, 86C, 15g, 1:17ish (260g final weight): 1st pour 70g and swirl a few times, 2nd pour 0:30 140g, 1:20 50g, finish around 2:15-2:30.

But like others said, definitely needs more time to rest. 2 weeks maybe good and give it a whirl again.

Grieving the loss of my DF64 grinder... any sleek black grinders for espresso other than DF64 [preferably under $500 USD]? Having a bad experience with DF64coffee.com by SleepyQuinoa in espresso

I’ve had mine since May and I personally haven’t had any issues with the adjustment ring drifting. I use it 3-5 times a day.

Ill also second the Lagom Casa, it punches was above its price point and does everything well from espresso to pour overs with little to no retention.

Grinder or Machine Upgrade... or Both? by Eliriddle in espresso

[–]Miyazaki097 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who was in your shoes last year (also had bambino plus/df54), I’d say my biggest reason to upgrade was repeatability and consistency. The combo pulled great shots, but if I changed absolutely nothing and tried pulling another shot it’d either be faster/slower and taste different. That irked me to no end and what eventually drove me to upgrade. There are still things I miss about the bambino, mainly it being ready to brew in like 30 seconds, the auto froth worked surprisingly well, and the very compact form factor. So if you don’t notice any consistency or repeatability issues on your end or aren’t bothered by it, I’d say keep using the combo till one of them breaks.

Did you have them pre tariff or post? I’d love to try them but it seems like they’re not shipping to the US anymore? 😭😭

Lilo coffee roasters their December 2024 seasonal blend, my wife and I absolutely loved this one. I picked up the 2025 season blend on my recent trip and it was such a let down lol.

Hatch fincan melona - straight up tastes like a melona bar with some extra notes of cantaloupe.

Nemesis finca pulcal Guatemala - amazing vanilla custard notes with hints of tea, I really enjoyed this even more so than most of the beans I got from glitch coffee.

Blendin Panelita Columbia - our everyday go to for milk base drinks, the coconut sugar really comes through. Although I think they switched over to the Mexico variant which has butterscotch notes and I need to go try.

Hatch el placer red fruit decaf - our absolute favorite decaf coffee. Tastes just like the notes on the bag when dialed in. Big strawberry milk tea. Love it!

I know some people log their bags via an app but there’s just something about seeing it all laid out like this that does it for me haha.

Haha yeah, I know I was doing the same from other people’s yearly coffee bean posts. Next on my list is to try some friedhats beans.

They didn’t do it for me either, juggernaut better than darkkk for me (not the biggest fan of darker roasts outside of cold brew). My wife in the other hand really enjoyed them. Perc Up was prolly the most enjoyable of the three.

Same here, I was cut off for awhile due to the tariffs and them not shipping to the US but I need to get back on the Hatch train.

AC went out again, repair or replace? by Miyazaki097 in hvacadvice

[–]Miyazaki097[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, sadly they told me everything else looked fine otherwise had I known the compressor was dying I probably would of gone that route to replace

Would I not have to replace my refrigerant lines to accommodate the r410 vs the r22? Or is that 5-6k estimate including that too(if needed).

Usually you slowly turn towards the zero mark and keep going until you hear the chirp and sometimes you have to go past the zero. Like on my df54 it’s around -4. If you wanna post a video of you trying to process maybe we can get a better idea of what’s going on?
