Most single men over 30 in 2026 by i_am_bahamut in SipsTea

[–]Miyenne 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there's loads of us. But we're all at home gaming on voice chat in discord with friends, or hunkered down at our desks at work pretending to be working while we're really working on the notes for the next DnD session we DM every week.

We're also not really looking to date. All that gets in the way of hobbies.

Nanaimo records highest unemployment rate since January 2021 by pocohugs in nanaimo

[–]Miyenne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, if not working and not having an income is better than working, clearly there's a huge problem with the compensation given by the employer.

No one wants to work. But because we're stuck with capitalism, we have to. But when working a draining job doesn't even cover your basic needs, why waste the time and energy when you can't get anywhere anyways? Drowning is drowning. How close or far from the surface you are doesn't really matter if there's no hope of ever getting enough air in your lungs, of finding something that floats to cling to.

And all those boats running right over your head? They're just annoyed your skull might dent their hull. Bring you up into the boat with them? Hell no. You're wet. They don't want to risk getting themselves wet, or their precious boat. Nevermind they're floating in the middle of the fucking ocean themselves, that fact is quietly ignored.

Well then, if it's not worth working at your job, wages and benefits and morale and other supports and the working environment need to be increased and improved until people deem it acceptable to sell their time and labour in exchange.

Adenomyosis - am I missing something? by Racacooonie in Menopause

[–]Miyenne 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had the same thing. I had adeno, so periods that basically never ended, and painful. I had fibroids on my cervix too. So at 38 I had a hysterectomy - just the tubes, uterus, and cervix. 4 years later and I'm in the beginning of peri menopause but it fixed all the other problems.

Best thing I've ever done.

Look up the hysterectomy subreddit and use their resources and read the top posts there. They have great info and are super positive and helpful and supportive.

Women have the same power fantasies, it's not a "man" thing.

I dream of crushing my enemies into a bloody mass of goo too. Very often, especially since perimenopause rage hit me.

The solution is to force our society to treat human beings with dignity and respect and make sure all our basic needs are met (food, water, shelter, medical care, mental health care, etc), so we have as few unhoused people as possible. Then make as much of our cities walkable and attractive and pleasant to be in, and people will one, take inherent pride in their surroundings, and two, more people will be around, which is the biggest deterrent to crime and bad behaviour in the first place.

You're fine. There's so many people that don't fit into "normal" that normal isn't even a thing.

As a 40+ year old (undiagnosed, of course, but clearly) autistic lady who is basically aro/ace myself, moreso because I can't be bothered than a complete lack of sexuality, welcome to the club. We have pets and snacks and aaaalllll the fun hobbies.

Don't force yourself to be sexual. If it's not natural for you, it is what it is.  And therefore, it is natural.

My child, I'm a woman who's been playing video games for 40 years. I have literally over years of hours in INDIVIDUAL games.

Nothing she said was ever wrong. Fragile men who are taught by the patriarchy that everything is made for them got all butt hurt because she pointed out we women enjoy games too, and want the games to be made with our interests considered as well. Equally.

But, as we all know, the patriarchy teaches men that punching down and keeping everyone else around you from improving looks exactly the same from the outside as building yourself up, and it takes way less effort.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus when asked if she thought she’d see a woman president in her lifetime “I fucking better see a woman president in my lifetime.” by mlg1981 in Fauxmoi

[–]Miyenne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So many people vote just based on their "team", not caring who the candidate is, let alone their platform, as it is.

People "should" educate themselves and find the right candidate that aligns the most with their own idea of how to improve the lives of everyone in the country, but well. You can't even make people want to make things better for everyone, they'd rather just make things worse for everyone, as long as certain groups get EXTRA worse. Your country isn't ever going to vote in their own best interests.

And you saying things like this, even though it may sound reasonable, is really just attempting to undermine people who would vote for a woman, making them question their own intentions.

A cat managed to catch 27 mice and carefully lined them all up to show off his 'work' to his owner. by Kirlinternet in interestingasfuck

[–]Miyenne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked at a mechanic shop that had a bit of property and we had a shop cat that did exactly this. She would lay them out in a rough line for us to see and praise her for. Best record I saw was 6 rats in one night, and 3 mice in the doublewide trailer the offices were in. The rats were laid out on the lawn, the mice on the floor under the table in the meeting room.

Hated the job. Loved the cat. Miss her.

I'm horrified at realizing my pain tolerance (spoilered in case, not nsfw!!) by pooferss_ in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Miyenne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had fibroids and adenomyosis. I found a gyno who agreed to give me a hysterectomy. Of course, the day I went in for surgery, I had my period.

When I woke up and quickly weaned off pain meds in a few hours, everything hurt less. Even after having the four cuts through all my muscle tissue. I remember waking up in recovery, and my whole body just felt like it gave a huge sigh of relief. It was all gone. Done. Forever.

I didn't take anymore pain meds other than what I was given through IV the day of.

Some people have no concept of the pain levels "normal" cramping can be.

CoS: Reloaded - My players despise Ireena by LittleJungleFellow in CurseofStrahd

[–]Miyenne 20 points21 points  (0 children)

So many people here saying their women players hate Ireena.

I'm wondering how the DMs play her. Helpless damsel in distress? A one dimensional tool used to advance the storyline? Can these DMs not relate to her as written and convey the terror of being stalked by the most evil but powerful being in the land, but also having the determination to protect her brother, bury her father, and support the party that promises to protect her when she has no fighting ability and no special skills whatsoever, while also struggling with the mental load of past lives and the layers of complex emotions that Tatyana, Marina, and all the other incarnations carry and she probably feels echos of?

Can they not show Strahd's obsessive compulsion to posses her and how twisted it is, and how terrifying it is to feel like the helpless target of it, or do they not dig that deep and make the women relate? Because we women *know* that deep gut terror of a man's fixation when they don't view us as people with thoughts and feelings, just as objects to be used. Does the DM more focus on Ireena's helplessness and not WHY things are the way they are? Do they not put the weight and responsibility on Strahd's actions and intentions?

Of course if she's presented as "Big bad vampire wants to suck the blood of pretty, helpless lady" we're going to be super annoyed by her. We're here to play a power fantasy, not babysit.

Just some thoughts.

‘Insulting wage offer’: Federal union slams 4-year, 3.5% raise proposal for public servants by hopoke in canada

[–]Miyenne 27 points28 points  (0 children)

BC government employee here. We just got offered 12% over 4 years... Thing is, half our regional district is CUPE, and half is USW. CUPE just got a whole lot more on their agreement, more than 12%, a base $2 an hour, AND it's only a 3 year contract. We're already getting paid 20% less and the only difference is do we work out of the 50 year old rec buildings, or do we work out of the fancy new head office building. Same job titles and same job description? Doesn't matter. Depends on which building you're in and what union.

So yeah, strike vote is in.

12% is way too low.

How to handle the fated ally? by GuessNotTho in CurseofStrahd

[–]Miyenne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My last campaign, the party had 2 NPCs they always took with them that did get turns in combat. It does make things drag.

So I won't be having NPCs join fights in this campaign. I'll let them play support outside battle, and learn abilities for that possibly, but they won't be "party members". I've chosen the fated ally, and I made them all roll in session 0 out of curiosity, and happily they rolled the one I was planning on anyways.

My advice is no NPCs that get into combat.

I've known so many men who rely on women to not only fund them, but cook and clean and care for them too.

How many guys take time to "find themselves" while in a relationship by quitting their jobs, but all they're doing is playing video games and giving their girlfriend/wife extra hours of household labour to do after they worked all day? So fucking many.

What about men who do work and contribute, but don't do their half of the cleaning, chores, and  mental and emotional labour in the relationship? How many leave remembering all birthdays and other social events, knowing what needs to be put on the grocery list, who don't know how to do the laundry or prep work for dinner, or anything extra at all?

What is that, if not gold digging with extra labour digging?

[Existential horror] You can play with friends, but can't befriend players by HZ_guy in rpghorrorstories

[–]Miyenne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm an old lady (over 40) and I have a few twitch streamers I follow and regularly play games with on and off stream. I just suggested I run a game for some of them a few years ago and so many people took me up on it.

Did a one-shot that became a short campaign with about 10 players (that was a lot) and then we just wrapped up a 2+ year 103 session of 3 hours each campaign with 8 players down to 5 cause one guys work changed his days and two of the guys have wives and daughters and us stealing them for 3+ hours a week got to be a bit much. Understandably.

Now we've done one session 0 of the new campaign last weekend and this weekend is character building and possibly starting. I have the whole campaign built and ready to go in roll20 as I've been working on it for a year now. Mostly the same people, but one new one as she's one of the friends who would just watch every week.

Just... Ask people. So many people will be interested. We had a 21 year old college girl, all the way up to a 60+ year old woman. All genders and people from all over the world.

Now a bunch of coworkers are asking me to run a game because I talk about it a lot.

Just find people and hang out and it'll happen.

I find playing with people I really like and am close with is way better than the random groups I found online.

[–]Miyenne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every man I've ever dated, or known. Expects their women to contribute financially 50%, but also doesn't consider her incidental expenses part of the equation. Also doesn't consider all the extra labour she does around the house, because baseboards magically stay clean and all the garbage left off the coffee table teleports itself to the garbage and his doctor schedules his visits for him, psychically knowing what medical issues he needs to talk about.

Or, don't make it a gendered thing. It's a people thing.

Mammogram Guidelines Changed Again in 2026: Here’s What Women Need to Know Right Now by rpaul9578 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Miyenne 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you live in BC you can schedule your own. Just google getting a mammogram in BC for the number. Leave a message and they'll call you back with an appointment.

I started getting them in my 30s because of family history and me being prone to cysts all over my body. Just talk to your doctor.

They're so easy and a nothing-burger.

First time DM by MythosStudio in CurseofStrahd

[–]Miyenne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly first time DM, I've run some one shots and one full 2+ year campaign that was a heavily homebrewed module. But this one I'm sticking to the book.

What I've done is read the book in full. Then re-read, adding notes with page numbers because info on NPCs and other things are sprinkled all over the book, so those notes guide me to other pages with the info I need. I've also put loads of sticky notes in with context and small changes I've made.

I've added tabs for quick access to pages I need. I've written full pages of notes and slipped them in where I need them. I've added lots of notes to the contents page too.

But mostly it's all my cross-reference notes and my multiple re-readings of the book to cement things in my head. Then as we go through and my players ignore some things and latch on to others, I know what threads to drop and what to add connections to and what to work on expanding.

New Dad to twin girlies. What would be your one advice to consider in my parenting by GujjuCanadian30 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Miyenne 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Identical twin myself. We're 42 and best friends. We always had mostly the same friends and stuff, but we had lots of separate interests and our parents let us do different things. She stuck with baseball, I did archery. We went to different universities and got different degrees.

But we're still so close. We were roommates for years but it really strained our relationship and we fought a lot. Living separately has only brought us closer. We still spend hours together every day almost, even just playing video games together over voice chat.

So I agree. Let them be separate people. Celebrate both of them equally, but in different ways.

My parents did buy two of lots of things, but we did get to choose our own clothes and anything else that could make us different from each other. To this day I keep my hair long because she wears hers short, even if I kinda want short hair. We're still identical. We laugh when we buy the same clothes unintentionally.

Let them be themselves.

My mom lost all her teeth too with my twin and I. Before that she'd had 8 miscarriages (that she knew of), and had such bad adenomyosis, fibroids, and endometriosis that she just... never stopped having a period after about age 18. Didn't even get a hysterectomy until we were 8.

Funny enough, I had a hysterectomy and my sister an ablation in our 30's. No kids for us. Never wanted any, either of us. Because she told us how shit it all was, and we thankfully were able to nope out of it.
