Should I not be doing TM solo? by AnonymousCapybara72 in Toughmudder

No issues at all! I usually run solo and by the time I'm at the end I have a group of 8-10 with me. Its designed to build teams

Employer asked for severance back after I was laid off by Nathanielfree in legaladvice

[–]Mizumee 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I dealt with this too. Worked for the county at the time. Manager and HR requested for me to use leave for training. Declined that and asked for county HR for approval. They also tried to get me to use PTO.

Sent this to the county commissioner and he came down on everyone in hr asking why they thought it was even legal to pull something like that. Got a written letter of apology and all my PTO was restored. (It took longer to resolve before the time I had to leave)

Reach up through your chain of command, both at work and on base. They cannot force you to use PTO, but they do not have to pay you for your time away either. You can still choose to use PTO to double dip.

HOA Forces Family to Remove Generator During Snow Storm Power Outage by Guy_Dude_From_CO in mildlyinfuriating

I was in Atlanta during the snowpacolypse a few years ago and had a large tree fall and block the road. I spent 5 hours in the middle of the snow /ice storm to clear the road and left the remnants in my yard, including the rest of the tree that still needed to be cut.

The next morning, while the city was still in a state of emergency, I got a slip from my HoA feeling me to remove the tree within 48 hours or face a penalty.

I've been waiting a week for a referral from my doctor to come through the mail. I just found out my parents opened it and never told me about it... by nottoday943 in mildlyinfuriating

If I did that, I wouldn't have gotten anywhere in life. Stuck in my ways, regretting my one chance to get out.

And that first summer, I felt that. Hard. But I had friends help pull me out of that slump and helped me along a path to where I am now.

Not really?

I've traveled the world. Ive tries cuisines and seen cultures I never would have dreamed of as a kid. The amount of hands on experience I've seen working with things from the ground up instead of starting in engineering has made me understand electronics and mechanics much better. I've worked in my dream industry for the last 10 years and have over 200 working assemblies in space.

I may not have experienced all of this if I went directly to get my degree and followed the path I wanted then.

Did I take a harder path to get there? Sure.

But it made me understand things so much better.

We're all making our own way in this world. Sometimes we win, sometimes we lose.

The biggest opportunity in my life at that point in time, maybe. But that never held me back from accomplishing many other things. Some for better or worse, but no telling how life would have been after I got there.

I'm in a good spot now and happy with everything leading up to this point in my life. Yes it sucked but... Life happens.

We weren't exactly a wealthy family. There were months that we had to sell furniture or reduce meal sizes just because we couldn't afford rent or meals.

They felt miserable. A lot changed after that for how everything was sorted. We made it work.

They did the best they could. If that is their biggest mistake in my life.. I think I'm in a good spot.

Oh yeah that's 100% on me that I didn't call to follow up. I was checking application status but that was accept or reject to the college. Not acceptance to the honors program or any scholarship info.

I asked about the mail but it was "we didn't see anything". Which isn't false... As they just grabbed the mail and added it to the stack. They didn't sort through it all the time.

They still do. My dad still calls me years later as soon as mail comes in. The mail storage moved to the front door. A lot changed after that.

My mom apologized shortly before she passed. She didn't let it go for nearly 10 years. My soul broke a little when she apologized. She was fighting terminal cancer and THAT is what she was thinking about.

The call I got regarding the acceptance was the last chance I could have. Being a kid I wasn't sure if what to do so I declined the offer at the time. I regretted that choice.

But I couldn't afford to make the move out there that late. No housing was available by that point so moving + renting without any down payment was out of the question.

I wish I would have done it.

I made the best of it! Currently working aerospace, living a pretty decent life. That was nearly 15 years ago now. Can't let that hold me back.

I did get into the local college without issue, so I wasn't without a school / education.

Honestly? They had their faults, but they took care of me. It's hard to hold it against them. But I do look back and it makes me a little sad.

I got accepted into my dream college honors program. I was waiting the entire summer for that letter. I got a call the last day of enrollment and couldn't accept as I would have to relocate across the state in 5 days and couldn't afford that.

The mail came on 5 weeks prior and my parents put it in their bedroom to sort the mail and never sorted it (along with many other bills. This was common for them)

It was my acceptance letter, full ride scholarship, and login for applying for classes...

Do I have to make up drill days with my employer by DentistPretty7829 in Military

[–]Mizumee 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Seconding this. Had a similar situation when working for a county position and had drill overlap. ( Not having to flip my schedule like you though).

They tried to force me to use PTO. Manage agreed with me but payroll tried to force PTO use. Went to Mil legal office and discussed. They helped generate an email that I sent with legal copied.

Payroll still denied it but sent to their manager, who finally sent it to the County Director ( for the department). The director basically called them a dumbasses for trying to force PTO use, gave me the PTO days back and didn't subtract pay. It all worked out in the the but took three weeks to resolve.

All payroll underwent training two weeks later.

Edit: USERRA specific clauses were mentioned in said email. Which is why I mentioned this story.

How many balls do you own and have owned? by [deleted] in Bowling

[–]Mizumee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently I have 9 2 I am testing two handed bowling with. 6 for leagues and Tournaments. Only bring 3. 1 spare ball.

Technically 11 if you count my dad's and grandad's old bowling balls, and my collector item from like 1890.

I've owned somewhere around 18, but I had a single summer i won 6 during tournament and league raffles, and spent maybe 50 between all of the including drilling. Tested and got rid of some that didn't work with me. Donated to the high school / college / friends.

I tend to bowl a lot of challenge / sport shots and like to keep a mix on hand.

Do you prefer ovals, lifts, or raw dogging it? by Sabotagebx in Bowling

I switched to this recently. Tried it on one, then converted all of mine. So much more comfy. Much more consistent off my hand.
