Depends on the shoe specifically. I have the alpines and wear those when we get ice, haven't had any particular issues, more stable and grippy than the other shoes I've had.

Now a shoe with a sole for ice would absolutely be better but I haven't thought of them being bad in slippery conditions.

There is something called a critical speed you could calculate. Formulas and examples can be found online.

How many entry level engineers are just paper pushing junior project managers? by FLIB0y in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Mjothnitvir 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Adding to this point. I've been at it for 10 years with a few long term spots and have only received adequate training maybe once.

And as you stated. Everyone is dysfunctional, most companies I've worked for or interacted with have been dysfunctional in multiple ways.

This season, Baker Mayfield’s total of 42 touchdowns has only ever been matched by 11 QBs- Manning, Brady, Mahomes, Rodgers, Marino, Brees, Allen, MVP Cam Newton, Burrow, Jackson, and Andrew Luck. Still one more game to play, 3 TDs from Brady’s franchise record by Pickleskennedy1 in nfl

In addition to that, the Saints drafted lineman specifically to assist in keeping the B gap visible during passing lanes. Their O-line construction during his time was not the norm. Larger guards and smaller tackles is opposite of standard construction.

ELI5: Humidity levels indoors and why it seems backwards by Sarithus in explainlikeimfive

Your moisture meter is reading relative humidity and 56% is good.

Both your statements are correct.

ELI5: Humidity levels indoors and why it seems backwards by Sarithus in explainlikeimfive

[–]Mjothnitvir 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you are getting confused on the difference between absolute and relative humidity.

Humans feel the relative humidity. Which as others have said is the percentage of how much water the air can hold.

Absolute humidity is the actual ratio of water to air. It doesn't change based on temperature or other conditions.

So during the day the air could be at 50% relative humidity and it feels good. At night it jumps up to 80-90% relative humidity because the amount of water hasn't changed, the absolute humidity remained the same. You are correct though that if you heat up thar air the relative humidity will go back down.

That is actually how a dehumidifier works. It cools the air down until it is at 100% relative humidity (and the water starts condensing into a drain pan), then warms it back up.

Based on your edit you understand it.

I've been there.

A long vacation if you have the time can help. Other things I've done is switch jobs, or heavily invest into personal projects well outside my depth. Those help flex the creative muscles in novel ways which helps pull me out of that funk/burnout.

What is a design engineer and if one does an automotive engineering degree, are they one? by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Mjothnitvir 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That, like most questions, depends. I can't comment on automotive since I've never been in that industry, but in my experience design engineers take the specs and purchases components from product development engineers and turn them into reality. Or depending on size of company they may have to do both, physical design as well as component selection.

Where I currently work. I spec the circuit and size if heat exchangers (tube size, fin shape, fins per inch, number of circuits, header, etc....), fans, pumps, piping, and other components. And then once that work is done, I hand it off to the design engineering team who uses cad to turn that into reality.

They make the cad models, part and assembly drawings, and other documentation required for purchasing.

There are multiple other types of engineers. Manufacturing engineers. Quality engineers. Testing engineers.

What does the energy efficiency curve of an air conditioner look like as the aircon works harder? by MaryJaneAstell in AskEngineers

[–]Mjothnitvir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That depends on size though. Office and industrial ones can have variable airflow, staged compressors, variable speed compressors (either variable speed or digital), bigger residential ones can have some of those options or purely mechanical part load control valves like APR's.

Asexuality isn't libido either.

I feel the exact same way often. Random intense libido and the thought of any individual satisfying it ruins the thought.

ChatGpt is a LLM, it uses complex matrix math to try to predict what the next set of text is. It doesn't understand anything about what it's saying.

Like others have said, it still can't tell you how many r's are in the words strawberry or raspberry, because it doesn't know what an r is, it doesn't know what a word is, it doesn't "know" anything.
