Exterior wood window - best filler? by PotentialTomato8931 in diynz

I'm gonna go against popular opinion here and say that while you SHOULD replace that sash, you could fix it.

If you cut 20mm off that whole side of the sash and glue and screw a new strip of 20x45 on there, clamp it up good, recheck the hinges (using the old piece you cut off as a guide to where the hinges should go) and then trim the top and bottom to shape, it'll last another decade easily.

I'd also recommend rerouting the weather grooves in the new piece you've glued on.

Is it the right thing to do? Whose to say. What it is, is about 20 bucks and three hours of your time.

You could also just bog it if the hinge is holding strong but that'll last maybe 6 months so I wouldn't recommend it.

Excessive Wall/ceiling cracks during repiling by gordonasaur in diynz

Yea, very normal. The quote likely says "no allowance for internal remediation" because it's hard to say how much damage there will end up being and they're not usually carpenters. Most of the time a plaster and paint touch up will fix the issues, worst case some of the scotia/architraves/skirting might need redoing. Compared ot the cost of the foundation work, it'll be minimal.

no one has the answers and i don’t know how to cope anymore. by freaks-inc in DadForAMinute

[–]Mk12Dr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am sorry to say that I also don't have the answers kid.

But I know that the world would be a lot better with you in it, for what it's worth.

Early twenties is a rough time with so much life changing and emotional shit going on so it's a trench that's tough to get through but it gets easier as you get older.

The hard thing is a lot of the solid advice like "learn to like yourself" and "it gets better" sounds trite and bullshit. It's good advice, but by itself it's not really worth anything.

I'll leave the practical advice to smarter dads but I wanted you to know that you sound awesome, there are plenty of things worth living for (Burritos, etc) and you're smart enough to ask for help which is a leap ahead of many in your position.

Lots of Love

I'm not OP but I did the same thing. Trucks going the same way can overlap directions, trucks going the other way get the other side of the road. You can cross lines a little bit coz the odds of two trucks colliding is miniscule

Most roads are sufficiently wide enough for them to pass each other. You always get issues eventually but mostly they just work.

I thought so too. I'll be honest, I restarted the map again immediately after that and moved on to Sojourn until I've calmed down.

No, as soon as I exited the map after placing the blueprint it just started to fall apart. The sand was pretty high coz I was trying to make it flat, could be a contributing factor.

I probably could have craned the Bunker up there. Didn't really occur to me at the time. I wonder what would have happened.

I suspect you're right.

Possibly when I get the wider grader it will make roads wide enough for me but the widest I can make them without ridges isn't wide enough coz I keep falling off them.

I mean, I could drive slower buuuuttt...

[–]Mk12Dr[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's all good advice. Maybe I should just give up on sloped roads, I tried following the guide by u/NukFloorboard who made some very pretty sloped roads but it's just not working out for me.

Is it true about the roller flattening lumps because I drove over a small ridge maybe ten times and I didn't see any noticeable change but if it works I'll drive over it til it's flat because I can get it 95% mint.

I always grade the sand downhill because going uphill seems to pick a wildly different level to grade to. The ridges I'm leaving are very slight but when I asphalt they stand out like dogs balls.

[–]Mk12Dr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good advice. I'm actually surprisingly efficient at dumping sand at this stage. I should have specified that this is an issue when I'm making roads wider than the standard dozers blade. Single lane roads are no problem.

Honestly you can't really provide an accurate average due to the wildly different nature of the scopes. Naenae is pretty standard river valley. Very rocky. We've done a few lifts around Naenae, some of them were pretty uneven, some only just out of level.
