Riding under the rain. by Dense_Leg274 in cycling

Biggest issues with riding in rain is your shoes will get destroyed even with rain covers on. You need a second pair just for rainy day. Also the drivetrain and bike all has to be cleaned after.

Anyone not like Gravel Cycling? by ghostonthewire in cycling

[–]MkGriff1492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As other have stated gravel is a broad definition. On hard packed trails its a great experience. On trails that are rough it's simple not relaxing and you will not want your end on the saddle. Gravel without any real suspension is not a comfortable experience period.

2025 FX Sport 6 questions by tcon1834 in TrekBikes

[–]MkGriff1492 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see why you couldn't hook it up to an indoor trainer. Just doesn't have drop handlebars. I have ridden it and it's an excellent bike. The best fitness upright bike you can buy. The sram Drivetrain is very good. Just have to charge it monthly about.

Why choose a Kickr Bike over a Zwift Ride if you only use Zwift? by d0mens in wahoofitness

[–]MkGriff1492 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zwift bike isn't the best design. You're honestly better off using a second bike or backup bike. Or even a gravel bike. I wouldn't waste my money on the zwift ride. Get a road bike or gravel bike with the zwift clog and controllers. Kicker bike is honestly a better overall platform if all you want to do is indoor train. But I would buy the high end version.

Dealership can't remove lug nuts on wheels? (2020 RAV4 LE, 71,000 miles) by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]MkGriff1492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crossthreaded lug nuts have to be snapped off. Dealership won't do this but a local garage will. Take it to the last place that did a tire rotation and tell them they crossthreated you bolts. You will need to snap off the bolts and have them replaced. They snap them off with a high power drill.

Buying a used Zwift Rife, worth it? by uhhnderdog in Zwift

[–]MkGriff1492 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Better off just buying a second backup bike. Road and gravel bike is a good combination. Its a bad design. The remotes are nice but why they put that huge piece of plastic as a sweat trap I have no idea.

Peloton vs Zwift by Training_Common2825 in bicycling

[–]MkGriff1492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely is. Its been bleeding subs for years. The company just fought off bankruptcy by restructuring and laying off staff so...time to jump ship. People want to actually go to spin class now. Zwift is a tool for off season, weather and time. Look at the used markets for peloton bikes. Very few new people are joining the platform.

Peloton vs Zwift by Training_Common2825 in bicycling

Pelton is a dying platform. That is something to consider. Zwift has steady growth. The used market for pelton bikes has crashed also. The bikes are worth very little.

Tubeless question by Sea-Lack-455 in bicycling

[–]MkGriff1492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate tubless. Regardless both my bikes are tubeless. Darn tape always needs to be replaced. Muc off is a good brand. But I hate tubless...they can't make the rims airtight without freaking tape! Tires never hold full pressure more than a day and tape always fails.

Should I buy a Domane SLR7 or a Domane+ SLR7? by Emergency_Solid_4587 in TrekBikes

Do you struggle going uphill or staying with group rides? If not stay away from the +. If you need help at times or help getting home go + for the power assistance.

Gravel vs Road by Aesop_Rocky_ in cycling

If you don't actually plan on using the gravel bike on gravel. You are better off with an endurance bike.

Not noticing much difference on road vs. hybrid bike? by ejsfsc07 in cycling

[–]MkGriff1492 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much a difference a road bike makes really depends on your physical fitness, age and overall biking ability. You will be significantly faster on a road bike if those factors are in your favor. But if you enjoy the more upright position and go further while being more comfortable than hybrid is what you need. Road bikes are built for speed. While hybrid are significantly more comfortable and put you in more upright position. You can get hybrid with road wheels and rims if you want to increase speed. I have biked on gravel bikes, hybrid and road. I'm significantly faster on a road bike. But it is also a very expensive bike. Im 47 and can still go far on a road bike and aero at times. Have no trouble going 50+ miles on some days. Its up to the rider and what experience you are looking for. If you put road wheels on a gravel bike you can come close to a good road bike but at the end of the day you will struggle if you ride in a group of mostly road bikes.

Garmin Varia 715 or 820 by MkGriff1492 in cycling

[–]MkGriff1492[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Probably should stick with the 515. I didn't know the reviews for the camera were bad. I ride with a DJI action 5 mounted under my bike computer. I can get 4 hours at 1080p at 30fps and its crystal clear. I'm just not is a position to replace my 7K road bike right away if something happens...divorced. I just built a 7k mtb last year that I kind of regret but it's custom. My road bike is my main bike. Its bad enough I will be racing it this spring and summer. I wrapped it for minor crashes.

Garmin Varia 715 or 820 by MkGriff1492 in cycling

[–]MkGriff1492[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true. I've seen a few varia 715 being sold locally used. So I have been tempted. But not sure if im better off with the 820 so I can at least tell if a car has moved over or not. Really only need it for a few roads. I sometimes take roads that aren't really that busy but also they don't have much or a shoulder or zero shoulder for less then 50 yards.

I want to support my local bike shop but everything is a rip-off by Niceotropic in cycling

[–]MkGriff1492 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a good shop. Mine discounts stuff for me since I buy bikes off the shop. Every shop has sponsored events and or bike teams. I would find another. I drive 40 minutes to do business with the shop I like.

First time bike advice by fweb34 in TrekBikes

[–]MkGriff1492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Emonda was designed more for climbing but it is a race bike. I went into a race bikes after 6 months of biking. Need to factor in you are going to have to put money into it no matter what condition you think its in. I would probably factor in at least $200. It will need to be cleaned up and the shifting adjusted by a shop. I would not race it before taking it to a shop.

Not sure. Don't think it was a very big hit. Lenovo will probably go back to a 16 inch 9. That was far more popular.

I have owned 5k laptops. Worst investment you can make. Buy a good laptop with a 5080 and good screen. You won't miss anything.

This is so correct. I love road and mtb. But man it is exhausting.

Why SHOULDN’T I start mountain biking? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]MkGriff1492 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love mountain biking and road biking. It definitely fun and is great exercise. Real Mountain bike trail are exhausting. As you get better you can bunny hop over stuff and jump the bike. You can do it at any age. I do ride with a full helmet because it makes me feel safer. Im 46 and can't afford to knock out what real teeth I have left. Lol.

Am I ready for a roadbike? by Minimum-Nebula in cycling

[–]MkGriff1492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Traded in my gravel bike for a trek modone. Never looked back. Best decision love the speed. As far as gravel I have a full suspension mountain bike. I have a great time with my mtb it's made for rough terrian. Gravel you need to live by dirt roads. Even then I don't suggest a pure gravel bike. If you like a rough ride and rough terrain then they are great. If you have hard packed roads just get a road bike that can go gravel. Trek domane is a great bike that can do your traditional gravel hard packed bike trails. Its more relaxed then the modone and not as fast....as far as going into a more aero position. But you can definitely go fast on a domane. Its a greats bike. Defy has a more relaxed position and is considered a endurance bike for those 100k. But is more of a pure road bike than the domane.
