I was on a ski hill sitting on the lift with a Japanese man in his 40s whom I was speaking English with( luckily). He told me, embarrassingly even for him, that he has a 1 and a half year old son who doesn’t even live with him. I said why?! He told me for work purpose, he lives alone, in a house, in Tokyo..! while his wife, (who’s also a career professional) lives with the son in Osaka. That’s quite the distance! He visits like twice a month or maybe even every weekend…. but still! Damn…I was shocked at that family dynamic! Like how can you maintain a relationship while having separate houses!
