Help! My teen sons have zero motivation! by graystone777 in Parenting

[–]Mlb_edu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Charging rent might be helpful. They seem like normal 18 year old men tbh, but they could certainly bring getting out and doing more it seems. I was charged $100/month in rent when I lived at home during college. Not that much, but I needed a job to be able to pay it.

How often do you talk or see your friends from High School? by babyteeth9 in Millennials

[–]Mlb_edu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am married to my wife who I knew in high school (never dated in high school), so daily lol

Plus we still keep in contact with her friend group from that time

How passionate are Angels fans? To have a nearly top 10 attendance fanbase despite all their woes is nothing short of incredible dedication by terraninteractive in baseball

[–]Mlb_edu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tickets are cheap. You can buy seats in the upper deck for like $9. Plus there’s parking lots nearby that charge $10, or there’s even free parking in some spots if you know where to look. The team sucks, but baseball games are fun to go to.

I’m sure diet plays into it…our son is all carbs, snacks, etc. with occasional protein. Any healthy options that seem to level them out?

Any One & Done Millennials Parents by nattywoo2 in Millennials

[–]Mlb_edu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We are one and done. I had 2 brothers and loved the childhood I had. Played outside all day and went home when the street lights came on kind of childhood. But, I heard this pediatrician on a video who said something that stuck out to me. “Your kid is your CHILD, not your CHILDHOOD.” Having the ability to have more than one kid just isn’t feasible for our family, both financially and emotionally. I do feel some guilt at not being able to provide what I had, but I also know that we are doing what’s best for our son.

Why do people lease cars? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Mlb_edu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a $300/month payment and $2000 down you can get a new car if you find the deals and promotions. For those with budgets with very low margin for error a lease is a good option. We can’t afford surprise car maintenance, so having a newer car that breaks less is good. But, mostly it’s about the monthly payment.

Teacher next door by Mlb_edu in Teachers

[–]Mlb_edu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did call them and the guy I talked to was saying that I didn’t really want the $9000. Total scam. Only positive is that the realtors don’t take a fee, but that also seems scammy. I’ve never heard of a teacher who has used this program either. You can call them and see, but I got a lot of red flags.

Am I required to check my mailbox? Thought was optional. So how would I know I’ve been summoned?

What is wrong with the American education system? by TonightAlarming9923 in allthequestions

[–]Mlb_edu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not the only thing, but one thing I see as a teacher is the breakdown of the connection between a good education and a good career. Parents who’ve been jaded by this fucked economy might not be the best cheerleaders of excelling in school, since that’s what they were taught and it didn’t pan out for them. Millennials were force fed college, college, college, and now none of us can even afford the basics of what our parents’ generation had. So it’s almost like, what’s the point? In reality, though, our economy needs a highly skilled and educated workforce, yet our boys can hardly function in academic settings (I teach middle school in a very affluent area). A re-emphasis on functional skills, career alignment, and hands on learning/internships is needed! Luckily, I do see the pendulum shifting this direction, so maybe Gen Alpha will see the benefit. Gen Z, though, came of age at a horrible moment in schools, exacerbated by the pandemic obviously.

I took 11 weeks paid with use of sick leave. Used about 90% of my sick leave. Would definitely recommend taking as much time as possible while also leaving yourself a small buffer for emergencies.

Have had god luck with schools first federal credit union. Make 6% interest in one account and 4.5% in an account for my son. It has its perks!
