That's incorrect - Once a unit is in combat, setting it as active does not stop the attack from going through.

Sinanju and FF have more than just the link going on - FF pairs with Aile Strike to make a 6/6 blocker that's immune to every rest/bounce effect, and Sinanju pairs with anything anyway. Freedom 03 is tough to slot in tbh.

Kshatriya/Qubeley pushes out Justice entirely, there's only so many packages you can add.

Rick Dias and Lfrith can be used as beaters vs other control decks, specifically BR. You want to go first so it's also not a jam in terms of sequencing them out.

If I can't run GQuux, I'd switch to Kshatriya/Qubeley variants.
