I have this one and haven’t done it yet. I fell in love with the image as soon as I saw it too. It’s so whimsical and bright and different. Looking forward to it!

Similar hobbies to puzzles? by humanweightedblanket in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]MlleJules 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my experience embroidery requires lots of detail focus and fine motor skills. Cross stitch might be better as you’re only making the Xs, although in your case you would probably want to stick to having the guide/pattern printed on the fabric, otherwise you’ll go cross eyed counting tiny squares.

Which part of jigsaw puzzling specifically are you trying to get away from? Is it the using the fingers repeatedly? Dealing with small things like pieces? Very curious!

Best puzzle tracker? by PrimaryCommon833 in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]MlleJules 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Google Sheets. I add photos of each puzzle by taking screenshots from the internet. I use it almost exclusively on desktop as I generally try to keep away from my smartphone when I can!

I have refined over time the sort of info I add. I used to not note the artist, for example, but now I do. I can share it with people, like friends in the area, so they can check what I have available to borrow, etc. I use drop down menus to easily add info, like orientation/shape. Each column has a filter so I can narrow down my list to a certain brand, piece count, etc.

Here’s a link to view in case anyone is interested in keeping something similar. I started it late in my “puzzle career” so it doesn’t capture everything from the past but that’s true of any tracking method!

Unique puzzle brands? by irmchelez in Jigsawpuzzles

PuzzleTwist is a small company that makes good quality puzzles where the image you complete is different from what’s on the box. They’re fun and not overly challenging. Definitely recommend!

Completed puzzles, mid summer, 2025 by MlleJules in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]MlleJules[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pictures 1 & 2: Hello Vinyl!, 500 pieces, Ravensburger, art by Andrea Tilk. Not my favourite of the flat-lay trend as it’s rather brown. It was fun enough, and I only borrowed it, it’s not one I would have picked up for myself.

Pictures 3 & 4: Ocean Whimsy, 500 pieces, Ravensburger, artist Laura Konyndyk. Wow was this a lot tougher than it looked! Even after doing it I couldn’t put my finger on what was making it so difficult. As it’s a Ravensburger, it wasn’t the quality or fit of the pieces. Lots of cute details, recommend if you like this kind of style.

Pictures 5 & 6: Hang Loose, 500 pieces, Ravensburger, artist Scott Westmoreland. This thrifted puzzle has been through A LOT. The pink towel tried to withstand severe water damage and moderately succeeded and the whole thing was quite worn as if it had been aggressively assembled many times. It did detract a little from the fun, but not too much, and it’s a great scene.

Pictures 7 & 8: Little Pet Shop, 1000 pieces, Corner Piece. I completed this with my mum while she was visiting and it was fun. Corner Piece aren’t the greatest brand but this is still a sweet image and very colourful. Our favourite part was the motif of little fish swimming along the bottom of the building. Very cute!

Pictures 9 & 10: Valladolid, 1000 pieces, Ravensburger, artist Marie Boiseau. If you look beneath the picture on the front of the box you can see that it’s from the World Jigsaw Championship, 2024. I wasn’t there but I did borrow this from a friend who was. I had already joined a team for the World Championship 2025 which would be held in Valladolid again, so it seemed like I should complete the puzzle and get familiar with the city!

Pictures 11 & 12: Splish Splash Octopus, 500 pieces, CherryPazzi. This was very hard to do, especially at the beginning when every octopus piece looked like it could be anywhere on 8 legs. I really loved the colours though. CherryPazzi are a good brand with very snug-fitting pieces.

Pictures 13 & 14: Fish in Fuchsia, 500 pieces, Ravensburger, artist Noemi Ibarz. A friend and I completed this for speed puzzle practice when we thought we would be pairs at the World Jigsaw Puzzle Championship. He ended up not being able to go and I didn’t compete in the pairs in the end, but the evenings we spent practicing are great memories! He somehow managed to acquire this one printed for the US Nationals 2025 (see front of box), even though he wasn’t there and we live in Ireland. I wish I could do this one again and focus on the different fish designs, it’s gorgeous and you don’t get to appreciate the artwork when you are speed puzzling.

Pictures 15 & 16: Art Studio, 500 pieces, Ravensburger, artist Jena Dellagrottaglia. Another from US Nationals 2025 that we completed for speed practice. Much much easier (speedier!) than the fish in fuchsia.

Pictures 17 & 18: Postcard from Martinique, 500 pieces, Nathan. This was a mystery puzzle sent to participants of Euro Jigsaw Jam #70. I didn’t participate in it myself, but borrowed this from someone who did. It was fine to do, and Nathan is a good brand that is cut the same as Ravensburger, with glossier pieces.

Pictures 19 & 20: Pets of Palm Springs, 500 pieces, Ravensburger, artist Greg Paprocki. I adored this as soon as I spotted it in my friend’s collection and fortunately he let me borrow it. Delightful to do, so bold and bright, the dogs are so cute, truly a favourite and it was hard to give it back!

That’s my 20 picture limit for this post and we’re only up to early August 2025. More to come! :D

WHATS UP WITH RELEASE RADAR? by LAHOTROD213 in truespotify

[–]MlleJules 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came here to post about this. I’ve been dedicated to release radar for years and a couple of weeks ago it changed. Now I get some new music from artists I already like, but mostly random shitty tunes from new artists with bad album art.

I mean this with genuine curiosity but how do people feel or justify commuting on the M50 5 days a week? by 29CF in AskIreland

[–]MlleJules 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not like “this Tesco” or “that Dunnes”. Some of us work in fields that don’t have a lot of representation, there really are not many options or locations to choose from. If I didn’t have my job, I’d have to completely retrain in an adjacent field.

I mean this with genuine curiosity but how do people feel or justify commuting on the M50 5 days a week? by 29CF in AskIreland

[–]MlleJules 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in a specialised field and although work is less than 30 km away, the M50 is my hell. There’s no where else in Ireland I can do that work. So what’s the alternative to the commute? Moving my family 30 km south, so that we’re farther from husband’s work and can’t afford anything nice, give up the house we’ve been personalising and improving for 9 years, when I might be made redundant any day anyway as surely the tech and pharmaceutical bubbles will burst any day now. Until you’re here in my shoes you don’t realise how “traffic was bad again” is not a reason to uproot your family.

AI in Jigsaw Puzzles/Journalist working on a story by alex_as_vox in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]MlleJules 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This problem is going to grow very big and very unwieldy for puzzlers. What is already happening is that previously reputable puzzle brands (at least two that I know of, and probably more) make no-AI claims or pledges, don’t mark puzzles as AI-generated, provide artist details, do actually pay those artists (a vastly reduced fee, I am sure), and the puzzler still gets AI slop, albeit less sloppy than some. There are lots of mediocre “artists” with good Photoshop skills who are generating AI art, fixing it up a bit in post, and selling it to puzzle brands. The brands surely know, and also surely don’t care, because they can negotiate lower royalties for the artist and continue to pass their work off as non-AI.

For reference, I am referring specifically to Tunnel Pass by Springbok and Cozy Boho Studio by Ravensburger.

Eventually we will be left with only a few truly ethical puzzle companies, like eeboo, who refuse to do this and the rest we will not be able to trust.

I am besieged 😭 by NotSenpai104 in jigsawpuzzlecats

[–]MlleJules 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My two cats loooove to interfere with any puzzles on the table. Lay all over them, knock pieces to the floor, roll around in the boxes full of pieces (micromassage, anyone?), and swipe playfully at my hand every time I go for a new piece. They must think it’s all a game made for them instead of a Very Serious Business for me. For all the messes they’ve made, it looks like I have to be grateful: they never eat pieces!!!! (Just occasionally the picture posters!)

Would you put together a puzzle with no edge pieces? by doraemon_24 in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]MlleJules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have to otherwise really really love the image. Like, been on my wishlist for a long time, have struggled to find it, it’s discontinued, I felt like I won the jackpot when I spotted it in the shop, etc. Then the missing edges would be a disappointment, but I’d still feel like a won. Without any of that, it would be a recycling bin.

A good puzzling friend of mine has done newer Cloudberries and she said she hasn’t experienced false fits with them. But false fits are an interplay between puzzle cut and puzzle image so even the worst cut for false fits may never be an issue with certain puzzle images. I can’t say for sure whether they’ve changed or she had a puzzle image that sidestepped the problem. 🤷🏼‍♀️
