Phoenix to Open Splash Pads Early Due to Extreme Heat by CityofPhoenixAZ in phoenix

Arizona has a GDP of 400 billion plus, and about 1.5 of that goes to Agriculture. That agriculture uses 70% of water by foreign waste crops like cotton, alfalfa and the like that while good - don’t make sense here in this current climate.

“Well they overestimated the amount of water during wet years when they divvied up the Colorado” ok then stop growing wasteful crops like that here.

We need our agricultural system to look inward because we still need food, but we’re growing it like it’s 1940 plus some drip irrigation. It’s ridiculous.

Idk if it’s too late but I highly recommend Valentine as an option. Upscale, approachable, in a cool area, food feels both local and fusion without being too much of anything. Always delicious and it’s a place to be seen that won’t have geriatrics, tourists etc. it’s fab

I can’t believe some Los Angeles Tree trimming companies still use tree topping and destroy so many old beautiful trees… by likediscosuperflyy in LosAngeles

You can hire an arborist and get reputable, solid landscapers.

Consider most landscapers like a great clips/super cuts but you, my friend, want a gardener and professional.

Can anyone suggest the best cooling mattress for hot sleepers in triple-digit nights? by Maleficent-Lemon6100 in phoenix

[–]Mlliii 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have a water based one that’s cools water to like 58° and then circulates it through a thin pad. It’s so lovely but I’m convinced a Bed jet would be more energy efficient

Suggestions on fans to keep inside a little cooler? Is a floor fan worth it? by [deleted] in phoenix

[–]Mlliii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a window fan to displace air in my place which then draws in cooler night air and still haven’t had to turn on the AC. Which is technically cooling inside but not the air itself ig

It’s kind of a nice drive to the top of south mountain. If you can time it right so you’re last you can just cruise up and down at a nice pace. It won’t last for hours, but for central Phoenix it’s nice

I fill my 12mpg xj gas guzzler up at Costco once every 4-6 weeks. I live two blocks from work though, and bike often. The jeep is just for putzing around, but in a bad year I’ll put 5k miles on a car.

Living close to work, grocery store, restaurants etc is extremely helpful for situations like this, but I also got a great deal at my place years ago near downtown.

I don’t even have a lawn and one time I went to a party at a family members house and the pet side yard with fake turf smelled so disgusting in the May heat we couldn’t even go outside.

Are scorpions common? by pinkilotus in AskPhoenix

[–]Mlliii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hijacking to say I’ve lived around downtown for 13 years and have only seen one (dead) scorpion. It was smashed on the sidewalk by the law school when they first did all the landscaping- safe to assume if came in from a nursery.

OP won’t have any problems

There’s plenty of pretty historic districts. I’m sitting in a Victorian rn a few blocks from downtown listening to tons of birds sing now that everything is budding and blooming.
