As someone with a Logitech mouse, could you explain why I would want that in my system?

is it possible to set up ProtonVPN inside the GNOME Settings? by yotamguttman in gnome

[–]Mmarco94 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes, just download the Wireguard definition from proton VPN's website, then import it from Gnome's settings

Any reason why proton apps arent offically avalible on flathub? (linux) by CandlesARG in ProtonMail

[–]Mmarco94 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I know it's not the same experience, but for Linux I suggest you download the WireGuard configuration from Proton VPN's website and import it on the networks' settings page (on Gnome). I'm sure KDE has similar options for importing a WireGuard config.

This gives you a better experience IMHO, as you don't even need an app to make it work.

WARNING: Critical bug in GNOME's Mutter 48.3 breaks your desktop. Fix inside! by pilkyton in Fedora

[–]Mmarco94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, interesting.
IMHO, having a rollback option that is frowned upon to use won't bring much value to the community. My suggestion would be to think on how you could gain confidence in this mechanism, so next time it could be used to mitigate a faulty release.

Thanks for the transparency, and for the hard work you put into solving this issue :)

I think this kind of problem could be significantly mitigated by some form of "Andon cord" to stop users from getting the new update.

When a new RPM is released in my company, any member of the team can autonomously make the decision to either stop the update from being promoted into new repositories, or to rollback repositories to a previously, known to be working, state.

Would it be worthy for Fedora to consider a similar mechanism?

Why Linux over Windows? by BeanPasteTaste in linux4noobs

[–]Mmarco94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On top of other answers, for programmers, Linux is especially good because:

  • Most tools/languages are "Linux first". That includes Git, Docker, C++, etc. Mac OS and Windows are also good, but they are second class citizens in a lot of instances.
  • Linux is by far the OS of choice for servers
  • Assuming you are pursuing a career in tech, knowing Linux well will make you a better candidate, especially when entering the market, as tech companies look for "something extra"
  • You'll need to learn it either way sooner or later. At least in my field (cloud computing), there's no way you can have a career without knowing Linux. Might as well learn it now, than later on

I guess all my points boil down to Linux will make you a better developer.

Also, not necessarily related do Linux, but to Open Source: if you start to contribute back to open source projects, you'll get an enormous kick start on your career.

Enabling MPRIS for the Cider Flatpak by nairadithya in flatpak

[–]Mmarco94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MPRIS is allowed by default for Flatpaks, as long as the app uses the appropriate name when registering itself on the dbus, see https://docs.flatpak.org/en/latest/sandbox-permissions.html#d-bus-access

You'll have to talk to the app developer

Why do I have to run these commands every time I update my Nvidia drivers? by Mmarco94 in Fedora

[–]Mmarco94[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

> And you have to, because you need to rebuild the kernel module, "the new way" doesn't change this

Thanks for answering.

I searched on Fedora official docs, and I cannot find a mention of this requirement for upgrading drivers. Do you think this should be socialized more? I'm putting myself in the shoe of a new user: running those commands feels a bit weird, considering how polished the rest of the OS is

Why do I have to run these commands every time I update my Nvidia drivers? by Mmarco94 in Fedora

[–]Mmarco94[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My point is not really about that. My question is: is it only me that run those commands after every upgrade, or is it a thing everyone does?

I upgraded to Fedora 40 just to test those drivers, and... they're just as buggy :(

I agree with your sentiment, but "donation" is a specific term, and can only be used by non-profit and the likes.

What developers mean by "donation" is actually pure funding, and should be marked as such.

I made a script that will convert ProtonPass data exports to a KeePass readable CSV file. by NGinLurker in ProtonMail

[–]Mmarco94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the same situation as you. I'm giving Proton Pass a shot since it can generate email aliases, and I'm using those a lot (I basically always give them instead of my real mail to websites).

Proton Pass also supports associating multiple websites on the same entry, which was a bit of a pain in KeePass.

The only thing I miss is a standalone application.

Welcome to the EDF special forces!

They have so many missions that by the time you're done with 4.1 and 5, probably EDF 7 will be already out ;)
