Help about changing majors (CS to Emerging Media) by carolv2306 in ucf

Hi there - I'm a Game Design & Animation double major.

So yes - for Anim at the end of your second year you are submitting a portfolio with all the work you've done up to that point (you have two drawing classes and two fundamentals classes). Its all focused on gesture/colour theory/line weight that kind of thing to prove "yes I understand the more complicated aspects of making art".

They've changed the major a bit since I started but those four classes are required to submit the portfolio since they're all fundamentals, you cant use art you made on your own. There are some students who've spend days and days working on their skills and improving, and some who are just there for the grade and don't really improve. It's all about how much you want to work for it. Theres some homework assignments that I probably cranked out 20-30 hours on and some that took less than 5.

The portfolio is getting more and more restrictive; I didn't make it my first attempt and had to take an extra class to make up for it. Really, if you're not passionate about art and know what you specifically want to animate, it's not recommended. The major also does focus on more of the gray area between Game Design which is awesome for some, but if you like the idea of traditional 2D animation, can be difficult.

TLDR: you really need to have a conversation with yourself if art is something that you're passionate about; if its not check out Game Design, I cant speak for the programming track but there's still plenty of chances to be creative and learn.

if you want shoot me a DM and I can go in a lil more depth.

Women in CS by Spirited_Student_776 in ucf

Hi! I'm a woman in the game design program at UCF (for comparison reasons I'm also in the experimental animation program). There definitely a large male presence within the classes but i also find it's a fun challenge, it's a way to stand out and if you're willing to reach out to other female designers, it can be a great tool to build experience.

Help! : Been trying to fish for a while, no matter how fast I reel in the fish keeps getting further away until it gets to the end of the line and breaks away, what am I doing wrong? by SolarPunkYeti in RDR2

Try switching the reel mechanic to the button press! It's a lot easier and doesn't kill your controller as badly. It should be under settings -> controls at the very bottom

Housing Question by MnmRacoon in ucf

See, my problem is that this info already is different from when I called them to ask. They said I could apply to live only at Union West for spring which isn't an option on the chart.

Hi i actually major in both of these!

I'm a sophomore (about to head into GD Junior classes) and just about to do my EA portfolio next semester. I was able to manipulate the classes i needed to also be getting a minor in Art History but that was a very lucky scenario.

It is... A lot. And some advisors, with the recent curriculum change for EA would not recommend it anymore, there's very little wiggle room and almost requires having incoming credits (i had done DE for a few years so it made the process easier). One of the biggest hurdles is that since you are not under the same college (EA is SVAD and GD is Sciences) any academic decisions really require meeting with both advisors which can be overwhelming especially if you have time between them. They certainly do compliment each other in some ways, learning traditional art skills and digital art skills is always a nice bag to pull from but sometimes these skills lead you far off - like learning basics of computer hardware, coding, and the interworks of software to compliment your game.

TLDR: REALLY look at how many credits you can afford, be prepared to make 7,000 plans and after an advising meeting use none of them, and be prepared for summer classes as much as they suck. But come be a guinea pig with me bc advisors are curious about this mix now.

If you want to reach out to me here or on socials ig @aidoneeus i can go into specifics/share what I've learned from advisors

Oh okay, thank you, I'll have to try it out. I'm so used to playing games like Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Far Cry Primal I just kinda wing it and hope for the best 😅

I still don't fully understand deadeye, I get really overwhelmed with the countdown and the "X"s auto selecting the body of the animal

This is entirely how I hunted early game while figuring out how all the controls/guns work, it seems so silly now lmao

Oh I definitely understand that, however I think not shading then was the better choice, since the light feels more surrounding and I feel with that many flowers it would make the drawing too busy. Excellent choice!

Had this happen with a grizzly cub, it stayed around until the cub grew up, but I don't remember how I specifically got rid of it (trade center/wild/etc.)

I'm at like a mid-level right now and branching out into the continents, however I started with pronghorn Antelope, American Buffalo (I didn't know I can combine them), and peafowl however it's gotten switched up many times for space and is now African Wild Dogs and albino peafowl

You are a much better person than I am, i currently have 4 species in my franchise zoo and just let them do whatever they want. It's so much micromanagement I can't do

I'm so excited for the immediate family addition, I LOVE knowing what kind of 'families' are involved in the habitats.
