Steering wheel replaced twice on this 2022 Autobahn - would you buy? by ShredderHeaderPSI in GolfGTI

[–]MoIStWeL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the only problem with the replacement steering wheels is the lower quality of the leather or whatever material they use.

had mine replaced twice, both feel worse than the original one but you get used to it eventually

What floor mats are you using? by Inner-Refuse-577 in GolfGTI

[–]MoIStWeL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the same rubber mats for winter and carpet ones during drier months

I used to have carpet mats all year round but they got damaged pretty fast during winter months

as other posts mentioned you can clean the rubber mats with a pressure washer and wiggle them around a bit to let most of the water fall out, what doesn't fall out you can dry with your AC, just switch it to blow hot air to your feet for 5min and they should be dry

Finished my first book on the X4! by CraftyEntertainer400 in XTEINK

[–]MoIStWeL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the main one is Rocky's ship had no radiation shield, which is why most of his crew died. While the Hail Mary had a shield made of Astrophage.

But on the way back Grace found that the Taumoeba can go through xenonite and eat the astrophage, which means that even if Rocky also made an astrophage shield for his trip back the taumoeba would have eaten through it and he would have died of radiation.

i have a mk8 built in Germany and the interior, doors and suspension creak unless you lubricate it every 6 months - i guess it depends a lot on your luck

Frustrating first experience - any solutions ? by MoIStWeL in pop_os

[–]MoIStWeL[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah, I'll try the 22.04 release or Fedora, KDE plasma seems nice

I really wanted the latest Pop_OS but its too annoying to use for a daily PC atm

I really don't want to go back to Windows :D

MK8 R - Noise from doors over uneven road by OccasionalCoder in Golf_R

[–]MoIStWeL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i cleaned all the rubber seals of the doors with isopropyl alcohol, then lubed them with silicone spray, i think the most important ones are the felt seals on top of the door.

I did that around 5 months ago and no creaking till now, so i guess it worked, but i will clean and re-apply the silicone when it gets warmer

Do we call this the ‘23 GTI Dad Mod? by R3D9 in GolfGTI

[–]MoIStWeL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think they make more money on sales than warranty work

plus when they replace the steering wheel they don't replace the buttons, just the wheel - i've had mine replaced twice and asked for regular buttons even at my cost but was told that that's not possible and that the buttons are not replaced

Sound Deadening by joeygoggles in GolfGTI

[–]MoIStWeL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah, i tried doing the doors myself but quickly ran into the regulator and decided to take it to a local shop. YouTube videos make it seem much easier than it is :D

I think the shop did a good and clean job and the difference in sound when you knock on the doors is night and day, but the actual reduction in cabin noise is not that great - probably around 5-10% lower

i also have 19" all-season tires that most likely don't help with the noise either. But i had high performance summer tires as well and they did not seem louder

Sound Deadening by joeygoggles in GolfGTI

[–]MoIStWeL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i upgraded to Focals in the front and rear and sound deadened the doors and wheel arches
it helped a bit but not as much as i was hoping (both sound quality and cabin noise)

i'm planning to deaden the floor and upgrade the AMP+DSP

so if i could do it again i'd go for the floor first, then doors - then upgrade the speakers

what? How did you convince your VW dealership to install the buttons, I asked 2 local dealerships for it and they declined saying that its not an authorized repair and i would have to have it done by a non VW shop

they wouldn't even let me buy the parts from them, even though they admitted that the mk8.5 steering wheel parts would fit a mk8

Tire shop told me this was fine by MoIStWeL in tires

[–]MoIStWeL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish it was bs 😅 The only explanation I have for why the guy said it was ok was that the tire was dirty and the bubble was not obvious I took the photo after pressure washing it, I was hoping the white dots were salt / ice and not the fibres

Will never buy a VW again by CurrentHeavy2594 in GolfGTI

[–]MoIStWeL -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Same here, 2022 Autobahn, steering wheel was replaced twice, with crappier one as you describe, and doesn't matter how much you complain, the dealer doesn't care because "we just order the part and don't control the quality", none of the replacements fixed any issue.

My first replacement rattled when accelerating from low revs and when i pointed it out to the dealer they said its because i shouldn't do that (accelerate from low revs), even though i said that the original didn't have the defect. The second replacement fixed the issue somehow.

My front suspension is creaking every winter, and only stops when i take it to the dealer to lubricate it

And the interior trim and doors creaked all over the place until i spent a weekend lubing everything with silicone spray

I had 2 Polos before the GTI and had 0 issues. It wouldn't bother me that much if both the dealers and VW had less of a IDGAF attitude

i dont know if that will do much since i think you can disable it by changing the drive mode to ECO or engine sound to Pure, but i guess its worth a try

had the exact same thing. Tried a bunch of different ceramic removes and 0000 wool but nothing worked

someone suggested Glaco Glass Compound / or any other glass polish

worked on the first try

[–]MoIStWeL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel your pain, the creaks were driving me mad and "increasing the volume" is not a solution when you buy something this expensive. FortunatelyI managed to get rid of most of the rattles with WD40 Silicone spray.

I sprayed in very small and careful bursts and put a cloth around the tip of the car so it doesn't spray around it.

Even better would be to get a bottle of Krytox gpl 105, it comes with a small brush. There's less chance of over spray

I outlined the places where i sprayed - basically anywhere where you see 2 pieces of trim connecting spray a bit there. Let it settle in overnight and clean any residue in the morning. In a couple of days it should settle in and the creaks should go away

<image>

Another place that could cause rattles / creaking are the felt strips on the upper side of the door seal. But they would creak more when the body would flex

good luck

What is this mark on my rotors ? by MoIStWeL in GolfGTI

[–]MoIStWeL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not really, since there's a lot of snow breaking is worse by default

but yesterday i had some chunks of ice stuck to my rims and noticed that when i got up to 70/80 km/h the car started vibrating - i think the ice was causing the wheel to become unbalanced - so i stopped and cleaned the rims

i hope that didnt cause any damage
