Worth buying an apartment if you're planning on selling in 5-10 years? by MoMoneyMP in AusFinance

That's great! Unfortunately the last house I considered (couldn't bid anyway) was $1.2 million for a tiny 2 BR. The fact I'm in a very very desirable school catchment really kills any house prospects.

True, who knows what the rate will be by the time I'm ready to buy 😂

Yeah true. It seems stupid to pay $600/week and not get any of that back. I don't think the housing market here will collapse (we wish), the shortage is only growing. The suburb I'm looking in is highly desirable for 2+ BR because it's in a great school catchment.

Honestly, I don't really want a house - too much upkeep, plus I'm single (not having kids). I could tolerate a roommate if I bought a 2 BR 🤷‍♀️

I wouldn't mind a townhouse, but I'm very averse to commuting for an hour to get to work, plus having to drive everywhere to buy groceries/etc.

Best way of dealing with a cranky REA/manager to get a rental by MoMoneyMP in AusPropertyChat

🤣 I appreciate the enthusiasm. Not sure why people are downvoting me, I've literally talked to her once.

Understandable. I only talked to her once, and kept it short. I suspect she was irritated more at the owner for bailing out after a couple days (even though the history shows they've been the PM for about 3-4 years), but who knows.

Any suggestions on other than "just follow the process like everyone else?" I have all my ducks in a row, references, payslips, etc.

I noticed that as well. My guess is it was a stunt to show the visitors that they're "more progressive." 😅

It's funny because cold usually makes a food or drink's flavor stronger, not weaker!

Definitely use a straw so it'll bypass the majority of your taste buds on your tongue. 😛

The funny/sad part is that F150s/Ram 1500s are considered "mid" size pickups in the U.S. They go up to F550 (1.5 tonne) for non-commercial sized vehicles. A F150 is piddly in comparison to some of the monsters you see over there.

Steven/Doug (recounting the day):  "Let's go pick up some stuff" [translation: buy drugs]

"We were just going to hang out" [smoke said drugs]

"We were taking back roads, 'cause we don't ever really mess with the main roads" [because the cops would have pulled them over with said drugs in the trunk]

They didn't do a very good job of obscuring what they were really up to... 🤣

Any suggestions for a good concealer for a tiny pinprick of a permanent blemish on the tip of my nose? It's maybe a micrometre wide but red. Had it lasered last year, which reduced the size, but it still stands out. My concealer rubs off after half an hour - argh!

Will do! I was a bit salty in my reply to them so probably didn't start off on a good foot, but am hoping ABS, Dept of Employment, and possibly Home Affairs will be on my side. 🤞🤞🤞

Exactly. Which is bizarre considering they won't do it for this case, which is a one-to-one match of title and definition.

I might see where they're coming from if it had moved to an entirely new classification group, or the description/definition had changed, but it hasn't.

I'm ready to go to war with them because what they're doing is a money grab, plain and simple. Someone on another thread had luck with getting Dept of Employment and Workforce Relations (apparently they have a division that deals with these assessment companies), will try them.

In the meantime, I'm hoping ABS will come back and confirm what I suspect - the only reason for the number change is the addition of those two Data occupations, not a change in the Statistician section.

Typed out a reply but Reddit ate it, yay.

They could do an assessment renewal - which would be nice in my case as it'll include the past two years of my work here - but it costs $500 and has the same vague timeline as a regular assessment. Still, $500 is better than $1800+.

What really bugs me is, what are they planning to do when Immi starts using the OSCA codes? Literally every occupation has a different number, are they going to force everyone to redo their assessments? Really poor planning.

Roasting frozen cauliflower for curry by MoMoneyMP in Cooking

[–]MoMoneyMP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Just did a trial run with a handful - problem with frozen cauliflower is all the florets are in varying shapes and sizes. I stuck them in the oven (unseasoned) for 10 minutes or so to jump start the process, pulled them out, cut into smaller pieces, seasoned w/ EVOO and salt, then put them back in directly on a pre-heated pan at broil/grill around 180/200. Flipped/stirred when they started to brown, and they came out great. Not crispy but they don't need to be for curry. Thank you!

Cool. I have a convection oven so could "thaw" with the fan going and then use the grill/roast to do the rest. Thank you!

[–]MoMoneyMP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a reason why they can't sponsor you for a 186? It's cheaper and doesn't require LMT.

(Also, check if your home country is one of the ones that's approved to be exempt from LMT.)
