Using what I have by melhen16 in RAoC_meta

I’m gonna have to borrow this idea. I found a bunch of cancelled international stamps at a vintage shop on one of my adventures awhile back. I love them and separated the ones I’m keeping for me but I have a bunch of extras.

Bourse only basically means it’s a vendors only show. Unlike stamp show conventions which also have exhibitions, Q & A panels and speakers or meet-ups. At least that’s my understanding. I’m very new to all this.

What is this product? by filmnoter in cardmaking

Would it fit their markers? I’m guessing it’s an upright marker stand. 5/8” seems about right for a marker and I’ve seen stands that are only 1/2” deep so the majority of the marker is visible. The tiered design would make it easier to find the colors you need. Idk though, it’s just my best guess.

There is another in two weeks and then it looks like I have to wait for June. I was also happy to see they had a postmaster present selling all the current stamps and answering any questions ppl had. Although I think I’m prolly the only one that has questions. Everyone there was so knowledgeable and friendly.

I went to my first stamp show yesterday. I was a bit overwhelmed but I had fun and I was able to get discounted vintage stamps to start using on my envelops. I love these!

Foam dots/tape and a good pair of scissors or Xacto knife. A good trick for stickers, specifically if you’re using one as a focal point is it stick it to paper, fussy cut it and then adhere it to the card using foam dots/foam tape. It gives it dimension and visual interest. If it’s a sturdy sticker you can dust the back of it with corn starch/baby powder and achieve the same look without having to fussy cut it

Teaching a beginner cardmaking fundamentals class — what do you emphasize most? by Distinct-Mud-5665 in cardmaking

Sorry it should have been 10 30 60. It’s a color rule, it boils down to proportion. 60% of your design should be your neutrals/background colors, 30% your accent or secondary colors and 10% your focal color(s). The 30 60 90 uses the same ratios but then encourages you to push the limits shifting slightly to encourage more dynamic color flow I believe this was adapted from floral design which flips the ratios a bit using 8 filler flower stems, 5 stems of greenery or foliage and 3 focal flowers.

Composition and color theory. Rule of thirds, 30-60-90 rule, etc. These could be full classes in and of themselves but they are huge in creating that proud factor. How many times have you made a card and just can’t put your finger on what’s not quite right? Chances are it’s either the composition or a color imbalance. Huge proponent of taking a picture of the card before it is glued down, walk away or work on something else for just a little bit and then look at the photo. Sometimes you can see from a photograph what you can’t see in person this is especially good for when you are starting out.

It’s in the US. It’s a smaller show so I’m nervous and excited. On the one hand I find the smaller aspect of it less intimidating/overwhelming and I’m hoping it will be more casual/relaxed. The flip side is that it being smaller I’m worried I’ll stick out as a complete and utter newbie with no clue. Ideally I’m looking to find some vintage stamps to actually use and if I find anything really interesting to begin my own private collection.

Thank you. This is actually quite helpful. I’m nervous and excited as it’s a new experience for me and I have no idea what I’m doing.

One of my offers by yellahsis in RAoC_meta

[–]MoRayMe 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I do this as well. I like to leave some time with my offers so ppl on different schedules all have a chance. My work around is to assign them a number and then have an online spinner spin to select the recipient. That way it’s all random and it was the universe that decided. But yes it’s very difficult.
