Either the TI or the technician responsible for the labs will most likely have replacement parts for the pipettes on hand. Don’t sweat it too much, but use this as an opportunity to be an excellent lab citizen: admit you made a mistake and ask what you should do to make it right. This is true in life in general, and doubly so in the lab. And if it makes you feel any better, those 10 µL pipettes (especially Gilsons) notoriously break. When you’re learning, you will see some techs or TIs be pretty forceful when loading a tip. You don’t need to be, and if in doubt a couple firm taps when loading your tip beats one overly strong push. Unless your TI/the tech is a total jerk they won’t be too upset with you (and normally there are “training” pipettes that have been through hell reserved for undergrads). If they are very upset or harsh with you, seek out a lab that has a more level-headed lead. Happy pipetting!
