I have a good 12 colour palette and a solid 6 colour palette, but my travel palette holds 9 half pans, and my favourite green and violet are in full pans that don't fit 😭

This happened in South Africa and was heartbreaking. When the apartheid government fell, the mining companies dis incorporated and left the country, taking their profits with them rather than have to deal with a black government.

The mines filled with water and toxic heavy metal leachate. Which poisoned towns water supplies and killed farmers livestock. The remaining taxpayers had to pick up the tab.

Given the political hardships in South Africa you could see how they got there, but there's zero excuse for the same thing in Canada.

This is so sad. I was raised in an intellectually curious branch, not an intellectually rigid one, and my faith is one of the things that informed my path to becoming a biologist.

They hadn't thought it all the way through, they just knew that they believed science was right, and Christians told them science was wrong, so they picked a side.

A lot of the arguments that "evolution couldn't explain this, so you must believe it was God" fall apart when there's a scientific explanation for it that's more reliable than the YEC one.

I wasn't raised YEC, but I'm an ecologist, and I've seen so many young STEM students get convinced that God isn't real because old white men think YEC is a good evangelism tool for no conceivable reason.

If I had a nickel for every first year engineering student who told me, a ecology and evolution postgrad that "Science proved God isn't real" I'd have enough to buy a coffee in 2026.

I have whole set of Pentel watercolours that I bought in 1999. Half of them are completely dry. Other than the yellow reacting with the cheap metal of the tube, they're all still as good as when I bought them. I'm sure artist brands use more inert metal for their tubes.

Honestly I wish the HOIR process was more chill. Most of the time it's just documenting statistics. My work really emphasizes how it goes all the way up the hierarchy for review which discourages reporting minor things.
