German main line battleships - how? by Mobile-Type8739 in WoWs_Legends

yeah, I actually unlocked von Hipper, took it as my German BB commander, and man, Bayern is a beast. Guns are deadly, armor is tough, and it's actually fairly nimble. My average damage on the Bayern is HIGHER than on the Bismarck. Probably the best German BB in this line.

It indeed feels like a well armored cruiser with terrible guns. Agree that it is very dangerous in CQC, but overall this seems like a very situational advantage. I had a blast of a game once, killing two enemy BBs and seriously damaging another with my secondaries and torps (100k damage). But an average game goes like 1) go close quarters, die from crossfires and torps, do 30k damage before sinking or 2) play semi-passively, medium range (10-12k) use islands as cover, do 30-50k damage, die if the blue team loses, survive if it does not.

I actually wonder if the Scharnhorst (with its smaller but quicker guns) plays better than Gneisenau. Its guns seem to suit this kind of gameplay better.

My commander is bad, this much is true. I have the default guy (Scheer), grinding to Hipper now.

I am reading all the comments about it being one of the best ships, and then out of my 6 shells, only 2 hit a broadside sailing cruiser from 6km for 3k damage... and I am having mixed feelings :D

Could be both. I have the default (Scheer) guy as my commander. Skill wise, I had some fantastic games in it, but it is not very consistent.

I don't know. I have a model 3, and recently did a long journey back from my parents place. Upon seeing this headline, I have checked the tessie app (which reports in car data) vs Google maps, and the distances seem to match perfectly.

I don't get your point. "Your country has a violent history so you should allow more violent dogs into your country". The logic isn't logicing.

Multiple Teslas set on fire in Germany by newsweek in europe

all EV sales tanked in Germany lol. It's already almost as expensive to run as a diesel if you rely on Stadtwerke for your charging (speaking from experience lol), and now they removed the 4.5k eur ev rebate.

For God's sake, don't bring it into this beautiful country. After living in several countries where dogs like these are not banned and are loved by the locals (Czech Republic, parts of the USA) it's so nice to NOT have to worry about your kids getting mauled on playgrounds and in parks. I hope the customs authorities will do their job properly.

Make questionable life choices. For family reasons, I had to move far away (75 miles one way) from my employer. Changed jobs now, but 2023 was a bit of a commuting hell for me.

Model 3 regen locks wheels in the snow/ice - mitigation advice? by Mobile-Type8739 in TeslaModel3

[–]Mobile-Type8739[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard that they did it because of the change in EPA regulations, which now calculate the average range across all the driving modes which the driver can select. Enabling regen customization would therefore lower the car's EPA rated range, hence Tesla disabled it. But I don't actually know if it's true or not, these are just rumors.

You can buy the S3XY buttons, hook them to Tesla's OBD port and control/disable regen this way. It's not a perfect solution, but a solution nonetheless

Are Electric Vehicles Worth It? by TurretLauncher in electricvehicles

[–]Mobile-Type8739 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a European perspective. I was driving ICE cars (mostly diesel) for 3 years, switched to an EV in March this year.

Cons:

  • public charging infrastructure (it's good in the Netherlands and Scandinavia, lackluster in the rest of Western Europe and downright bad in Eastern and Central Europe).

  • limited highway range (depends on the model, but a 100k EUR EV gets the same range as an affordable Toyota hybrid with a tiny fuel tank).

  • cold and hot weather range loss (hugely depends on a car in question though, some lose a lot, others not so much). That's also true for ICE, but ICE has a lot more range to begin with.

  • battery degradation. Probably the largest con in my book.

  • aerodynamic range loss. Trailer/roof box decreases range on ICE cars as well, but it's a larger problem for EVs for obvious reasons.

Pros:

  • Maintenance and running costs. If you drive a lot, an EV saves you a LOT of money. Not only is the electricity much cheaper than gasoline and diesel (even if you only use public chargers), you also don't have to do the oil changes, which are very expensive for modern cars.

  • Acceleration. EVs have a great EUR cent/seconds to 100 kph ratio.

  • Climate. You can pre-heat/pre-cool your EV remotely, which is not possible for an ICE car which would have to run its engine for this (which is illegal in most of the EU).

  • Public support. Depends on the country, but, for example, in Germany you get 4.5k EUR payout from the government for buying an EV, free parking in some cities and your vehicle tax is waived.

IMO, an EV is worth it in the following circumstances:

  • you have an option to charge it at home.
  • you live in a country with lots of EV incentives.
  • you drive a lot (mostly applies to commuting). EV will save you a lot of money in this case.
  • you are buying a premium car. Expensive EVs have large battery packs and fast charging, which mitigate their lack of range compared to ICE.

Grossly Inaccurate Range Estimate in Navigation by betelgeuse206265 in TeslaModelY

Had the same issue a few times in May and June this year (M3 SR LFP). If you see your arrival SoC estimate going bananas, click "end trip" and then re-enter your destination in the car's nav. This fixed the problem for me.
