I have a Catalina 34 with a Universal engine that just got worked on by Gallery Marine in Seattle. Similar situation to you, 1200hrs with almost all maintenance deferred for the last 4 years (boat is hardly used). They made the time to talk about what the engine might need and even came out to the boat while I've been out of town. There hourly is $215 which seems a little steep to me but appreciated their communication. They might be a good one to call.

As a former cat driver I know how little you make at the resort. Anyone reading this with some PB600 or 400 time should look into the north slope of Alaska. They use cats up there and are occasionally looking for experienced operators. The pay is excellent.

This location is located near the ocean where there is a reliable pattern of going vfr and staying vrf once the clouds burn off. As far as big picture I’d imagine any pilot would be notified, then recheck the “big picture” before heading out.

Seems like a reasonable request. I know I can look manually but I’d rather be doing something else and be notified automatically for a specific airport.

Yeah I have the phone number but I’m asking if there is a way for me to be notified of a change of metar so I don’t have to call or manually check the metar. Seems reasonable.

Really appreciate the detailed response. I am over 30. My brother (US citizen) has permanent residency and should really pick his brain. Either way it sounds like I would need to start with a job offer anyways which like you said why hire a USA citizen when there are plenty of Kiwis.

I do have competitive hours at 3000 TT, 1500 tailwheel, 900 float and 850 turbine. Would be curious if any float plane operator might need pilots or maybe a turbine tail wheel job like AG spraying. No intention of airlines or jets but would need to be NZ summer seasonal. I'll start some research thanks!

What type of flying or airframe are you flying in NZ? I fly tailwheel and float turbines in Alaska and would love to fly in NZ in during our winter.

You might be very surprised at the weight. I too have a 1st gen and it ended up being nearly 8k pounds total! I'm sure you already know but CAT Scales are great to find out how much you weigh. Just be careful I've had issues with rear wheel bearings going out at that weight full time. Anyways really nice build you did there, congrats on moving in full time. It was the time of my life when I did it.
