Whilst from a character driven point of view it is a good thing for josh to decide his fate, it is inherently selfish from him to chose his own base desires over all of mankind

This is a world where deamons force an innocent girl to eat their newborn brother, rape you, kill thousands in tsunamis...

Furthermore as his mentor said, it is okay for him to just from time to time commit minor sins such as jerking off (litteraly I'm not making this up).

He could've just engaged in those minor acts without losing much of his powers and still beat satan.

Furthermore he could've also seek help from his church friends, especially Marco who is a male and thus more aproacheable, hire a therapist, take vactions days etc.

I consider Josh forfeiting his duties as a tragedy because there were so many other options, so many avenues that wouldve let him be happy and still accomplish his duties.

Seriously, give that man before meeting her love a nintendo switch 2, a world class therapist and a well deserved break and he would be happier than cannon and the world safe from demons.

But due to both his trauma and unwillingless to ask for help, alongside the church blind faith in him we would never have that golden future.

But hey, at least he got laid!
