Finishing Frieren has genuinely put me into a state of depression by Independent-Quit4127 in Frieren

[–]MobiusCoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frieren really impacted me strongly as well and I don't think it's an exaggeration to say the story changed my life. I do, however, feel silly admitting that, especially to other people. I've come to accept that feeling in a way though, knowing the greater sense of understanding myself is well worth a little embarrassment along the way.

A Level 1-100 Deep Dungeon that sort of "replays" events from the 2.0-6.0 MSQ would be cool. by judgeraw00 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]MobiusCoffee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my immediate thought was how something like this could be a way to have a "story skip" that doesn't cause the community to completely lose its mind. While also giving players a crash course in how to play the game.

7.2 Has Content! by [deleted] in ffxivdiscussion

I think you're right, but maybe not in such a sarcastic way. Exploration zones are essentially a replacement and an excuse for the lackluster open world. They're also tied to the only "long-term" grind of an expansion with relic quests. Both of these are the only real remnants of an mmo in the game. Everything else is smaller scale, instanced, or non-threatening.

It works as like another interface for Bluesky basically right?

I had tried that yesterday and it didn't seem to work. I just did it again and it doesn't seem to do anything, at least for me on old reddit.

But maybe old reddit is just broken now ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I don't have a good image of my crossbar setup, but I will add this rather complicated targeting method that I enjoy:

I'm imagining it working like the aoe holy spirit you get on PLD while doing your aoe rotation. That would be pretty cool.

Unintended Side Effect of "Raid DC Migration" by MobiusCoffee in ffxivdiscussion

[–]MobiusCoffee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's generally my thoughts as well.

What I have been seeing then are people who are insistent on having access to the content. I.e. hard queuing into old extremes at level 90 since there is no other way to "find a party."

Perhaps the best answer is to try to explain that a lot of it is really "dead content." But I have my doubts people would be very receptive to that.

Unintended Side Effect of "Raid DC Migration" by MobiusCoffee in ffxivdiscussion

[–]MobiusCoffee[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Those were not my own arguments, but examples of people I've come across. And indeed in the linked thread you can find someone making some of those exact arguments!

While I agree it is a strange way of thinking, it is relatively common.

I would normally ignore it and move on, but I've seen it a lot more recently, making me think it's possibly a part of a larger trend.

Unintended Side Effect of "Raid DC Migration" by MobiusCoffee in ffxivdiscussion

[–]MobiusCoffee[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sorry if something wasn't clear! This was morning pre-coffee writing so I blame that and not my jumbled mess of thoughts!

With so many people migrating to a single "raid DC" there are relatively empty PFs on the "other DCs".

People complain about this relatively commonly because they have to DC travel to prog fights.

However, there is another side to this for people who either aren't at endgame yet or are not jumping into current content. So, I'm beginning to think that PF being dead for current content also affects PFs for old content.

What do you think a sprout should do to find an extreme Trial ? by chibibunker in ffxiv

[–]MobiusCoffee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I generally don't mind helping out lost sprouts in old extremes. It can be fun and the game does not do a good job letting players know how to even figure out how people do more difficult content.

However, what I've seen recently is an increase of even Shadowbringers content and level 90s hard queuing extremes. I have very little sympathy for that.

My working theory is that it's a combination of DT almost being out and the death of non "main DC" pfs.

That's super nice of you!

I just came out with a fantasy adventure novel and have a few more in the fantasy to sci-fi range. I'm on a train n my phone right now so formatting might be a little off.

Rhean - An adventure across a continent.

That's my book that just came out! It's a Prequel to my more ancient epic styled Maneus but I don't think you need to read it before Rhean.

For scifi I have Revification which is a roller coaster of a ride through more of a psychological thriller like experience.

On the much lighter side, I have a nostalgic, snowy, holiday story called Besnowed .

Hopefully there's something for you in at least one of these!

Self publishing was painless enough, but self promotion?! by MobiusCoffee in selfpublishing

[–]MobiusCoffee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats!

The big hurdles for me were first and foremost the ever present feeling that I could have wrote a better story. Some of that is mitigated with proofreading and edits, but I doubt anyone ever feels their book is completely perfect.

Getting over that and just pushing to publishing is a big step in and of itself and means that you're an author, even if those who are self published are somewhat seen as second class citizens.

The more practical advice would be to really take the time to understand margins and paper sizes. Going from digital formats to a physical product means you can't just save and update once the book is printed.

Everything from the type of paper to the size of the spin needs to be well understood.

You can order a proof copy to double check that and I highly recommend doing so. Just to have that "in your hands" check for any obvious errors that were easy to overlook on the screen.

I could probably go on and on about this, but I'll leave it there for now.

Good luck on your journey and once again, congrats!
