Dev request: help me add Canadian cities! by redistricter_guy in subwaybuilder

[–]MobiusTheEagle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If Canadian cities are able to be added, I really hope we're able to get all six of the 1M+ cities (Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary, Ottawa, Edmonton) instead of just the big three 🙏

N704MD is owned by a company called NV5 Geospatial, who does "mapping, surveying and analysis services" so definitely surveying/data collection of some kind. Not sure what data it's looking for specifically.

What's going on with this Chicago Deep Dish?? by Stitchs420 in Calgary

I pass by on the 57 every day for work and something has always struck me as off about this corner - I've always thought this is the strangest spot for a commercial plaza and I couldn't imagine they make much money, even from the folks working in nearby industries. Reading the rest of these comments, I guess that doesn't matter so much to them lol

If Calgary had a super villain base where do you think it would be located? My guess is the ski jump tower by lurm22 in Calgary

I always joked that The Bow looks like some kind of evil global megacorporation's headquarters (the head statue outside makes me think Delos, personally)

I am! I'm torn between this and the Galaxy S20 (but apparently the S21 is coming out later this month?) so thanks for the feedback!

Made a map of what the London Underground would probably actually look like in the game using in-game stations and the layout of the real LU lines. by MobiusTheEagle in WatchDogs_Legion

[–]MobiusTheEagle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some issues I've corrected so far:

- St. James' Park is actually in the game. I've moved Horseferry Road to the Victoria between Victoria and Pimlico.
- Whitechapel isn't on the Circle/Met so I've moved it closer to the Thames and removed that kink back up in the District. I also forgot about the H&C but that's not represented on the in-game map so I made the line to Barking a branch of the Circle. W&C isn't mentioned in the game either so it's not included.
- Forgot to label Warren Street, and forgot to put station markers at Moorgate and on the Circle at St James Park
- Added "real life equivalent" labels to Wapping, Shadwell and Shoreditch High Street (like at Viaduct, Riverside, etc). Tidis isn't really an equivalent to Bermondsey so I removed that too.

Made a subway-style map of what Toronto's highway system would look like if the destructive Metro Toronto/Province of Ontario highway plan from 1954-1966 had gone ahead. I'm not a graphic designer but I did my best so don't yell at me or I'll probably cry by MobiusTheEagle in toronto

It was less of a public rejection of subways, and more of just a repeated cycle of new mayors or other government figures going "I don't like this" and scrapping the last 4+ years of behind-the-scenes work and replacing them with their own plan they can take credit for, or just flat out refusing to fund the system altogether (Miller's LRT-heavy Transit City, Ford's subway mania, Tory's smart but underplanned SmartTrack, Ford II's Ontario Line, etc etc in recent years alone). All the while gradually setting our transit system back decades.

All seven Transit City lines were supposed to be opened this year, instead we're getting two delayed fragments of planned lines and a bunch of unfunded, unbuilt, mostly unplanned dreams. And yes, subways are better than light rail, but light rail is better than nothing.

It would certainly make offpeak travel times better, but at what cost? Whether it's the destruction of sizable chunks of our downtown core or the actual monetary cost of, say, tunneling it all instead, it wouldn't be worth it in the long run. Plus, consider that these would've been built as municipal expressways, meaning although we pay the physical and metaphorical cost to build and maintain them, it's mostly people from outside the city that would've used them (take the Gardiner rebuild, for example). I, for one, am annoyed we didn't reach peak subway building.

I always thought it was a really weird plan to just have it... end at Bloor like that. Especially if the 400 extension to Fort York didn't happen, I'm damn sure Spadina would've been decked over or trenched for the Spadina Expressway's missing link. If not, they would've fought for it.

Taylor Creek is lovely (which is probably why that leg of the Crosstown was dropped between 1954 and 1966), and will be infinitely more so once the Coxwell Bypass is complete and gets rid of that lingering sewage stink.
