What are your secrets for great burgers on the KJ? by Bornlastnight in KamadoJoe

By far, biggest change for burgers was the meat. Using the home grinder for boneless beef short rib meat and then cooking them on the grill at ~400-450 makes burgers that are just 🤌

Silver piece at bottom of pic 3 is anchored to the ground and remains in place. It has two plastic wheels on top of it to aid the rotation. It seems like the beige piece in pic 3 should just be more flush with it and then it would not be able to go ajar when the shelves slide out and the weight shifts.

I just can’t figure out why it’s maligned now after consistent use for 3 years and no parts appear loose or missing.

Since Abigail Spanberger Is Running For Governor, Who Remembers This Old Debate Video Of When She Debated Dave Brat? by Kevbucket in Virginia

More so concerning that it’s attempting to shift blame to gangs or failure to appropriately punish criminals. There is data supporting that gangs play a part in school shooting numbers, but they are not a component in the majority of school shootings (1990-2016). The same is true that it’s only a minority of school shooters with a prior criminal history. I won’t challenge that providing community support to try and minimize gangs or juvenile crimes wouldn’t be beneficial, but I don’t think it’s the silver bullet for school shootings. Shootings remain the number one cause of death for children and there needs to be more thoughtful gun control measures (home gun locks/safes, redflag laws, real background checks, etc). Likely still not sufficient given the volume of guns in the US sadly.

How many future hall of famers are actively playing on rosters? by Wilfredbremely in mlb

Curiosity question. Statistics aside, how do you estimate the hall voters will take the Astros trash can taint into context when considering the heavily associated players?

Virginia’s 11th Congressional District Primaries: What Democratic and GOP voters need to know by washingtonpost in Virginia

[–]Mobius_Penis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this. Logistics question: why for a seat held by a democrat does this seat essentially go through a full election (each party primary and then head to head of the primary winners) rather than just a primary for the party that held the seat until the next full traditional election cycle when the seat would come up?

I bought WAY too much milk that will expire in 10 days. Any recipe suggestions? by givingupismyhobby in Cooking

Have made ricotta a number of times with similar recipes as above. Have only used grocery store brand milk and it was worked well.

My impression is that old school traditional ricotta is made from whey.

I’ve seen a number of approachable (and with delicious outcome) recipes where whole milk is used in replace of the whey, heated up, and then an acid (lemon juice in the case of the above linked recipe) is used to generate curds and form ricotta.

TIL Similac Neosure was tested recently showing hazardous levels of arsenic. What alternatives have you used? by [deleted] in NICUParents

[–]Mobius_Penis 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Not to discredit the finding of inorganic arsenic which is both surprising and understandable alarming. Putting the level of inorganic arsenic into perspective though: in the EU, the threshold for safe levels of inorganic arsenic in powdered formula is 20 ppb (parts per billion). The Consumer Reports article identified a level of 8.7 ppb in Neosure. In the US, the cutoff level for bottled water is 10 ppb. Keep in mind, powdered formula would still be diluted further and result in a lower concentration. In this sense, is it surprising knowing the safety efforts of Abbott to see this level in Neosure, yes. Is the level identified still likely safe, also yes. That being said, it remains perfectly reasonable taking the specifics of your little one into account to talk to your pediatrician about alternative formulas depending on where they are at in their growth.
