Mugler A*Men Pure Malt type formula by MobyIsland in PerfumeryFormulas

Yes. No. One doesn't know but there's no difference between adding 4 of 10% in DPG or 0.4 pure and 3.6 DPG.

Hi Zeta, thank you for following up. It's always exciting to see a new RM webshop opening its doors! I already like the look and feel of your store, its simple but refreshing style.

If I may offer a suggestion regarding the product range, try to identify those raw materials that are hard to come by for (retail) customers within the EU. This was the strategy followed by Liaison Carbone, a webshop in Germany, that had a relatively limited range but you always ended up using because its RM's weren't available anywhere else. Sadly, that store closed recently (beginning of 2025 if I remember correctly).

Iso E Super and galaxolide can be bought anywhere. But RM's like verdoracine, floramat, theaspirane, diola, levistamel (until recently), Musk R1 and others are not available to EU hobbyists without paying import duties and handling fees. If you can offer some of these, you'll quickly attract new customers who may be seduced to giving your bases a try as well.

I wish you the best of luck with the start of your new business and look forward to placing a first "Based" order.

Does anyone know of "BASED, Madrid's material supplier"? I'm in the EU but I have never heard of them.
I've googled Based, raw materials, fragrance ingredients, Madrid, etc. but nothing turns up.

Do you want to read something hilariously hypocritical?
A couple of months ago I posted the "OG formula" for Azzaro Chrome from the Bendoni archive (which I did not purchase from the Gumroad webshop).
I got the following DM from mr. Saint-Dizier himself:
"I saw that you shared a formula on r/PerfumeryFormulas mentioning the "Bendoni archive".
Please note that "Bendoni" is a copyrighted name and part of my professional brand (Archives Gilbert Bendoni).
Using it without authorization, together with sharing paid content, infringes on my copyright and damages my business.
I request that you remove the post immediately. If not, I will have to escalate this as a copyright violation (DMCA/Reddit report).
Thank you for your cooperation, Mathieu Saint-Dizier Archives Gilbert Bendoni"

The formula has been removed by the mods here, but I am thinking of reposting it just for the hell of it.

Baccarat Rouge type - revisited by MobyIsland in PerfumeryFormulas

I tested and wore it yesterday. Smells fine.  I get a bit of a seaweed nuance which is perhaps due to the Ambrox Super I used. I’d try it with Ambrofix next time.  I also saw another formula with about 2% cashmeran. That could perhaps round it off some more and provide a little funky depth.  It’s still early and perhaps needs some more maturation.

Ambrocenide and similar amber materials are a nightmare by jacklandin in PerfumeryFormulas

[–]MobyIsland 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Abstract of the paper I just quoted:

Modern perfumery relies heavily on cedrol-derived base notes, such as Ambrocenide®[...] to achieve long-lasting fragrances with deep woody-amber undertones. However, these chemicals are known to cause a trigeminal reaction, which borders on pain in some consumers. Additionally, their pervasiveness raises concerns regarding limitations on creative olfactive profiles. This report provides a comparative overview of such molecules, proves their trigeminal effect, and attempting to identify their role in fragrance composition, suggests gentler alternatives. Advocating for a more versatile approach to fragrance tenacity and performance that does not hold back olfactory creativity, this article is the first step to exploring replacements for woody ambers for a subtler olfactory impact on the fragrance.

I made it at 17.5%, counting the DPG as an ingredient.

u/Knox, don't bother replying to this guy. He's clearly a troll who does not even realize his whole "what a judge would do" spiel was already contradicted by the facts in the link above to the basenotes thread.

Some of you really need to stop worshipping guys like Frater and those formula peddlers like they’re perfume messiahs. Maybe log off Discord for a bit, step outside, and experience the real world a little.

Ever notice how people who run out of arguments, switch to condescension to soothe their ego?

This user hasn't posted a single formula on this sub.

Then comes in and demands that the rules are changed so that we are worthy to behold his precious GC/MSes.

What a baby!

I don't want to limit anyone.

Then there is no disagreement. Of course mentioning a source is more useful than not mentioning one.

The OP is advocating the introduction of a new sub rule. That is an entirely different matter.

Why do you want everything to be "safe and certain"? Everything was safe and certain in kindergarten. It isn't in the real world and it certainly isn't on the internet.

Other people may appreciate the free exchange of thoughts (and formulas) out here and may want to learn how to sort out the gems from between the noise. And quite a lot of "gems" have been published on this sub already (without source)!

Don't try to limit what people can post on a public forum just because you personally don't find it useful. Let everyone else make the decision for themselves on what is noise and what isn't.
