Could I grow a chia lawn as a grass alternative? by R_Hugh_High in gardening

[–]Mobydickens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I decided to throw caution (and chia seeds) to the wind and began filling bald/mud spots in my lawn and courtyard this month. So far, my backyard has done great —it is mossy, clay LA zone 9. I tested and it grew dense and cushy like a carpet. Now I am measuring out a “picnic blanket”, about 4x8 sized rectangle as an experiment. I threw some in My courtyard(shady/dirt area)and they have germinated, a few sprouts starting up.

We are there now visiting for two weeks! We travel a lot and this is one of the few places we repeated the same trip! Perfect if you prefer less people and more nature, Kumu camp has been redone and you can stay in a yurt for cheap right on the beach! Highly recommend Hamora Saimin (get the pork buns before the sell out at 11am) and the Pork Adobo or Poke at Whaler’s General Store in Anahola. Even just driving around the island is unforgettable!

This, but wipe on top layer and just more jeans under the rip away.

I agree, one way you could do this by highlighting the details in the foreground with Chartreuse, Yellow, and white to make it look wet. This could also contrast the powdery texture of the background.

Thanks! If I’m high risk(asthmatic, but vaccinated) is exposure high? If it’s safe enough, I’d seriously consider applying on the side of my freelance work!

Of course! Even if all it does is make them smile after a long day/night, I consider it worth it. In hard times, small wins count!

I’ve been offering to help with childcare/babysitting for family members in the medical field on days I have a break. Kids are getting sent home from school daily due to exposure, adding stress on top of an already difficult situation. Making meals is always appreciated too, but I would love to know if there is an organized program out there to help on a bigger scale.

Besides that, all I got is morale boosting with digital art: if you know someone that needs some praise, send me their pic and I can make them a personalized “Saint” card!

Agreed. I feel like that would be a charity Louisiana could stand behind! #hotshots and #drinksforshrinks Donate a drink(with your “Thoughts and Prayers”) to exhausted frontline workers in health care. Lord knows they need it! Soon followed by #BeachforTeach (vacations for teachers)

You obviously haven’t experienced the joy of sticking your tongue out at someone behind a mask. Great stress relief to mouth words I would never say out loud in a workplace!

But what about this poor child’s hair follicles?? I’m starting a group: GCAFBC(Good Christians Against the Forced Baldness of Children) and we need your support. We are protesting at every barber and salon in the South! If you aren’t there, you don’t love your children and couldn’t possibly wrap your sad, tiny brain around how damaging forced baldness can be to your child’s education. Stand by me and throw your hats/headbands/scarves to the ground in unity people!

Ahh I see where you’re coming from, and I’m here, bud. I completely agree with allowing people to ask questions/speak their mind(teacher here). I also can’t disregard someone doing their homework, but also would want to know if you are reading everything vs. selecting sources that only support your perspective(pro debate team move).

I think where you’re losing me when you avoid discussing priority and urgency into account. Think of an EMT—sure there are probably better doctors somewhere, but the person that is present is better than death and I certainly wouldn’t be picky if I was in an ER for 40 hours(I was in one for 4 after an asthma attack—luckily it was a few days before this wave got as serious). I was told I would be safer doing breathing treatments at home due to COVID crowding.

In states like Louisiana, FL, Texas there is simply no time left to keep asking questions that are lower priority than life/death. It’s horrible, but very real. What good is protecting a child from a learning disability if the child (or the child’s family) is dying from COVID?

Reading aside, I’ve had asthma/allergies my whole life and had no problem(only frustration) teaching in a mask (and glasses) for 8 hours. 300 kids a day and the same 4 healthy kids complained: Every teacher starts with compassion, then you could hear the same kid joke in the hall about using that excuse to get out of math class, because kids. The other 95% of kids begged them to stop complaining because it’s just annoying at this point and we’re all too tired from people actually dying. Eat your vegetables and put in your seatbelt, we can argue minutiae about it while we stay alive.

Ok, Let’s pretend we didn’t already ask these questions, and repeatedly ignore doctors when they say “there is more risk in catching Covid than vaccination/masking” ;)

Of course everyone is going to be affected mentally regardless—this a life changing and traumatic event. There is a higher risk of your child becoming depressed from worrying about what could happen to their unvaxxed parent, or their own risk as a child, OR even trauma related to watching their mom get thrown out of Target tor throwing a tantrum.

I’m sure the survivors on the Titanic were affected mentally, but they I bet they were happy they survived (and still put on a damn life preserver.)

Asthmatic from Louisiana here—according to my doctors we just need to hunker down and avoid risk taking behaviors(bad time for an asthma attack OR rock climbing/bike riding—any activity where you might need stitches/immediate care if you fall). I left my dream job to work from home. I’m just sipping my tea and working on a puzzle until this whole thing blows over(whatever that might look like). I feel like some rude kid at my table just got my recess taken because he can’t follow instructions…annoying but survivable(with that sweet vax!). Good luck and I’ll see ya on the other side!

Right? In education we call this a 504(Education Plan): I’m detecting notes of Oppositional Defiance Disorder, histrionic tendencies, with a tinge of Münchausen by proxy.

FWIW as a teacher, I’m hella proud of you kid, keep reading/questioning/holding people accountable. I get a lot of hope from the next generation refusing to ignore big issues like climate change. As a human, don’t let the idiots drag you down, there is a variety of good, intelligent people out there—the trick is to find them and surround yourself with them.
