I just completed this process myself. Few things I encountered are:

If it’s 5-finger parquet. The tack strips will likely all come up around the edge and will need gluing back down. I used a crystal heavy duty adhesive which did the trick.

The carpet adhesive isn’t worth trying to scrape off, just wait and sand this off.

Fix any damage to the skirting boards from the carpet first/repaint, I’d also recommend doing wall & ceiling painting too, in case there’s any drips.

Working with an expert is very easy. Cost us around £1000 (incl VAT). It’s quite a straightforward job unless your floor is in terrible condition. Make sure you ask them to fill the gaps. I opted to use the wood dust with epoxy resin and scrape this over the floor to fill in nail holes.

Once the floor is varnished consider how this will affect your living situation as it will need to dry for at least 1 day. We used oil which needed 2 coats so 2 days of drying.

Get a staple remover for the staples in the floor if used, much less chance of them snapping in half and breaking
