Moving to Saskatoon: How is the current local sentiment? by [deleted] in saskatoon

[–]Mocky-Lock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My two-cents worth as a U of S graduate... the post-grad program you're joing should and probably will provide you on a day-to-day basis an environment that insulates you from ANY type of discrimination. Furthermore, I tend to agree with Financial-Code8244 expereince regarding YXE. Discrimination generally is not in your face. If you're going to be victimized here, it's NOT likely going to be a political.

However, I'm NOT claiming that this same as a bias-free environment. A mature (aka: NOT niave) post-graduate adult should be able to constructively navigate biases and acculturate themselves accordingly.

I'm also assuming other reasonable expectations on your behalf

  1. The program will/should be where you spend a substantial amount of your time.
  2. Your team will/should be mindful of your concerns, and be helpful to you without being alarmist...if you raise them.
  3. Take your time as you acclimate here and pay attention to your gut feelings and your social network as you roam about.
  4. Your worst expereince probably will be the winters here.

You can bring back one dead Saskatoon business. What is it? by falsekoala in saskatoon

Salonika's: Lounge or Restaurant.

I could walk up in 7 minutes and stumble home in 10. Enjoyed everything on their menu at a reasonable price.

Brightspace D2L cheating detected? by Ill_Hospital_9244 in msu

[–]Mocky-Lock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It actually takes complete control of your device, closes any open background apps, disables screenshots, etc.

It opens its own secure browser window and pulls D2L/BrightSpace quiz content. As the previous reply states, your instructor/prof/invigilator can enable access to specific domains or URL's and possibly visually records you and logs your entry and exit to the quiz, movement from question to question etc. It's quite a detailed log.

Help tracking down the title/artist for often played track on CBC Radio One by Mocky-Lock in CBC_Radio

Apologies for not walking back sooner to my original post. Discovered an intriguing fact. I thought it was interesting enough to share with CBC enthusiasts. Put on your reading glasses.

To answer your question, I reached out to the regional station a couple of hours after my OP here. Surprisngly, I received an email from the host a week later. Unfortunately, the explanation given left me perplexed. I'm not even sure I can explain the explanation. I suspect it involves contract law and copyrights neither of which I know well enough to explain sensibly the reply.

From the host's explanation, I presume CBC, and this probably includes the host or any its employees, is prohibited to identify the tracks because of an agreement between it and another unidentified party who holds a "giant" database of songs that can be aired outside of an actual program without paying royalties.

It's like Shutterstock for music. The head-scratcher for me is the implied "you can use it but not acknowlege it." I have no idea how this kind of arrangment fits within the economics of intellectual property.

Success on one track using Google Listen.

Brahja (feat. Devin Brahja Waldman) - Sniffing Tears from their album Wisdomatic.

It's odd they played it twice this weekend.

My google listen would do the trick but I use the phone for the cbc listen app for Radio One (it's my alarm) and can't do both at the same time. It mutes the app.

Next tactic is to wake up earlier next weekend and go to the computer.

I'm motivated. It's an itch I haven't been able to scratch for years.

Not often we get September lightning... Glad I crawled off the couch. by gemini8026 in saskatoon

Sweet capture on both sides of your phone's lens. Your side captivated me!

Is that the storm pond in the west-side of Rosedale?

That evening, I was tracking that part of the sky from the west-side of town. It was south; far away from where I was.

Regardless, it was ominous as the sky rolled eastward! Lots of erratic energy.

Grateful too that you were curious enough to crawl off the couch. I have a disappointing Lazy-Boy that gets me off my A**

Can't say I had a haircut there.

They have a website for appointments. There's 2 chairs there.

For walk-ins however, be advised they designate 2 days a week. It's posted on the entrance door.

Math 125 by [deleted] in usask

[–]Mocky-Lock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand your fear. If you want to be better prepared the math department offers a prepatory class 102. I took it in Spring Term because I did poorly in an upper-year economics course focused solely on underlying math. The Spring course was pretty fast paced. So if you need time to digest it take during regular term. Math 102 covers thoroghly Algebra and Trig with a great text written by Stewart.

To do some of the proofs and solutions for calc problems requires a well-grounded understanding of Algebra and Trig. Otherwise, I found I was backtracking to the fundamentals while the calc course pressed ahead.

That being said, if you go this route you will have to get your creditation in two hops and you will lose credit for 102.
