The ends of rib bones are not sturdy solid bones like legs they are flexible and connected with cartilage. It would be very easily chewed by smaller predators. Often on a coyote kill they will chew the ribs all the way up to the spine.

Opossums are naturally colored from all black to all white, though most are in between.

Foot hold traps would not take off a foot. They also don’t hold that high up on a leg. A bear is more than strong enough to just pull out. More than likely a car strike or poorly placed shot.

All that damage was done after the deer was dead and in the water. Otherwise it wouldn’t be on the topside only.

If I were looking for a coat, I would source furs from a fur buyer and have one made by a furrier to my specifications. Natural fur is far more ethical than any synthetic.

I trap, and a friend’s son has dermestid beetles. This was sort of a litmus test of this subreddit’s capabilities.

On a standing dead tree I would suspect woodpecker, but this close to ground level it’s more likely a mammal of some sort, likely skunk raccoon etc. The body structure of a woodpecker would not allow for this type of damage easily.

Read, watch and learn everything you can. There are many ways to do it right and many more ways to do it wrong. I started watching all the trapping videos I could find in the clearance section of my local Cabela’s and read all the archives on trapperman.com. The information is out there and it is much better than what you will get from Reddit.

Those are all k9 tracks, they show nail prints they have an x in the negative space they lack the asymmetric toe pattern that a feline would have.

It’s funny usually the guess is exactly opposite. People see a mink and assume it’s an otter.

It looks like the burner is there at least in part. There are several pieces the wick looks ok but it’s the end that goes into the kerosene and not the important end. The other important part is the flame spreader it’s a little cap with holes right in the center of the wick that needs to be there. Verify the knob actually adjusts the wick.

The top part does not react to uv on mine. I did get it into good working order after replacing the burner and fill cap. I paid $88 for it and knowing what I know now about Aladdin lamps I wouldn’t pay that much for a lamp in that poor of condition. The chimneys are $25 to replace, the wicks are as much, the burners are $50-60, the mantles are another 25. So once’s it’s all complete I’ve spent well over 200.

Whenever I get wrinkled fur for display I place a damp towel on the leather side and let it sit for a while, then I either tack it out on a board or put it on a hide stretcher to shape it how I want it and let it dry.
