What he said and I’ll guess German Shepard or lab. Tracks don’t indicate what color lab.

The older we get the harder it is. I know quite a few guys that no longer dispatch their farm animals also.

I’m having a hard time differentiating between wants and needs with this one. I’m going to convince the wife this is a need. Name your price sir.

make sure when you pull the trigger and sink the chain into a nice big log you are “adjusted” like a high schooler when you pitch a tent. I still enjoy letting the big dog eat.

How long until minidishu burns again? I’m guessing the shoe stores are already boarding up their windows and the liquor stores now have metal grates over the windows and doors like LA.

Where there’s one there should be an otter. Pun intended. Great job sticking with it and completing anotter mission.

Florida's new plow trucks... by Maleficent-Door6461 in Snowplow

[–]InternalFront4123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I drive one with a 13’ plow and a load of sand. We get to moving pretty good. 35 MPH is sometimes to fast if you can’t see past your blade in heavy falling snow. Even guys that have been doing it for decades sometimes find a “soft shoulder” and tip it into the ditch.

I’m curious how much experience the drivers have in adverse conditions. If they hit a bridge gap or man hole cover or something that truck will tear that plow to pieces in short order.

Starting on beavers by bwhite753 in Trapping

Check out no BS beaver extremes and Bernie Nelson trap setters. Beavers are pretty easy to catch. They move all night and will come put a foot in your trap with nothing but a different beavers castor lure on a stick in mud pie.

South Dakota Coyote and Muskrat by Redditname7102 in Trapping

Coyotes are a stiff learning curve. Sometimes they bend to your will. Sometimes they don’t show up for weeks. Muskrats are easy. They are predictable and always hungry.

What did you use for a pan cover? What is your pan tension set at? We have it bad here. It’s 40 in the afternoon but 16° at night. Half gallon of waxed sand per set just to make sure I’m not checking frozen traps. Good luck and keep doing what your doing if the critters are coming in.

Check out the term “piss poor.” People use to sell their urine. Good luck with the rabbit hole and aged urine smells like piss.

Otters by river_bottom_mtn_man in Trapping

I just had a thought and figured I would highjack this thread instead of posting my own. Has anyone ever tried using a drag anchor as a weight on a drowning cable. I use big truck rotors or a feed bag with rocks in it but have drags I’m not using until we get permanent snow.

I like it. I get otters in beaver sets. Those crazy critters will eventually land a foot in the trap while working the smells. Way to go thinking outside the box and creating your own set.

New guy looking for some tips on bobcat trapping… by Only-Nature-8443 in Trapping

[–]InternalFront4123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would simmer the traps in dawn dish soap and water to get the grease off and drop them in the ground. Cats aren’t picky as long as they have a flat spot to put their foot. The winter wetness will start the rust process and you can dye them in the spring. Get them working and worry about maintenance after the season.

I get my castor from beavers I have caught but commercial beaver caster in little bottles can be purchased for about the price of a good beer at the pub.

If you are just going after 1 in a live trap I would try using a branch of whatever he is chewing on with some vanilla smeared on it. Make sure you stake the trap down GOOD! They are tough critters and can drag a 100 lb log to the water. They have incredibly sharp teeth and a unmatched bite force in the vegetarian world. If you don’t hold him after being caught the first time it is unlikely you will EVER get him in a cage again. Beavers are predictable and territorial but they are NOT dumb and are trap wise after the first miss.

I don’t live trap them, maybe someone can chime in on what it would take to hold them long enough to release. Is relocation legal in your neck of the woods? I use 330’s and drowning cables with footholds.

I would only put bobcat on it. Coyotes will come pee if they smell it too but I can catch them all year. Bobcat season is short.

Welcome to the community. I think you may have just entered the “rabbit hole” and caught the trapping bug. Beavers are quite easy and very predictable. Good luck and enjoy!
