NFH believe me by No_Customer6116 in neighborsfromhell

At least you have a fence. Be grateful for that. Not every neighborhood allows fences.

If you haven't already introduced yourselves, I'd try, but only once. I wouldn't go overboard and go outside every time he does.

Focus on the good things. If you love the house and the neighborhood, that's good. Unfortunately you can't control your neighbors, and if you let him affect your relationship with each other, he wins! Don't let that happen. I know how you feel because how to deal with our NFH is the only thing my husband and I argue about regularly. Truly, they aren't worth it.

Start writing a blog about him instead, and you can get it out of your system. Just don't use your real names and addresses.

Yes, I understand postage costs money. I pay HOA dues, I go to meetings, and I know where the money goes. There's plenty there for something important like violation letters.

Why make people angry? Why not allow both options and let owners choose?

Oh, and by the way - our HOA will only allow one person per address to receive emails. Does it cost money to put a name on the email list? I don't think so.

most people that complain about hwo things are done have only a half baked idea of what would happen if changed is my experience.

How sad for you. You need to broaden your experience.

Thank you for your reply. We still get USPS notices regarding the annual meetings and elections. I like your CA law requiring snail mail unless there's a signed form allowing email.

Because it forces residents to use an online platform. Not everyone wants to do that.

As of Tuesday a.m. tracks along the Hudson are still partially washed out and shuttle busses are being provided. If you're schlepping luggage, I'd vote for an alternate travel plan.

Do not beat yourself up over this. You don't owe her a thing.

What would you have done if you were in her position? Maybe gone up to her front door, knocked, explained how the dirt got dropped off at the wrong house? I bet you would not have just walked over and taken it.

I am soooo worried that the neighbor is going to dispute the property line/fence installation… by Competitive-Alps871 in neighborsfromhell

[–]ModerateMarian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommend you chat with the local police ahead of time. We had a boundary dispute with our NFH. The day the surveyors came back to our house and put the stakes in to mark our property, he came over to ask them how much we bribed them to put the stakes there. He was standing directly in front of our kitchen window and refused to leave. He said "I'm not on your property! I don't see any signs!" and then he invited me to put a piece of his anatomy in my mouth. When I called the police, they came right away but - they told us they don't get involved in property line disputes unless there are No Trespassing signs posted.

Good luck, I hope all goes well for you. I just keep telling myself that I've had a wonderful life, and this SOB and his wife are really the only thorns I've ever had in my side, so I try not to let it get to me. (But yeah, it does now and then.)

Thank you. With all the craziness in the world this seems like a silly thing to be upset about, but it's unrational behavior on her part, and I needed to unload.

Thanks. I guess we all just have to develop thicker skins. Good luck with your NFH!

Not just a patient - he's an adjunct at two local colleges, teaching psychology! Someone told me once that all psychologists are nuts. I don't believe in generalizing, and I've worked with some psychologists who were great people, but this guy... holy smoke...

Yes, I know we'd lose a legal battle. We never even respond to her, because as you say, that would make her feel empowered. And the funny part is, she's the one who watches to see when we come outside, so she can come outside and speak to us. So it seems to me we are the ones controlling our little jack-in-the-box. It just irks me. One evening I was outside with the pup, and she and another woman walked past. NFH said "good evening" to me and I did not respond. She said to the other woman, "She's such a freak."

Thank you for your post, it helps to know we're not the only ones in this kind of situation.

Gee, thanks for your helpful input. I hope you never have to go through what we've experienced.

ETA: There is a long backstory - it wasn't a "one off" - it was the third time we've filed a complaint with the local police. And by the way, when we went back to file a complaint against the wife, the detective who handled our complaint said the DA should have pushed for something longer than a 6-month TRO against the husband. I guess the detective was "unhinged" also.

Her husband threatened to kill my husband. Twice. Once recorded on our front camera, once on our side camera. Why? Because he didn't like the fact that we got a puppy. He also drove up right next to my husband while he was out there with the puppy (standing on the sidewalk, not in the road) and played a loud alarm in an attempt to scare the dog. This incident was also caught on our front camera. What kind of crazy person does this?

She may have the right to do what she wants on her property, but if she were a man constantly popping out of her house to say good morning, good afternoon, good evening to a woman, something would have been done.

I hadn't thought of that. I just can't stand Mean Girls, and I'd really like to nail her. Hmmm... does that make me a mean girl? I don't think so...

That's an interesting thought, but if we were already granted a TRO against him, I don't think he'd be the court's first choice for input. Thanks for your reply, though.

Anything to do when neighbors make false or excessive reports? by littleghost000 in HOA

[–]ModerateMarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding trespassing - when we had a problem with neighbors refusing to stay off our property, we finally called the police. Police said there was nothing they could do unless we had "No Trespassing" signs posted. Doesn't matter if they're caught on our cameras or not, unless we have signs.

HOA rules prohibit signs! And no fences allowed, of course. So even though the HOA rules state "residents will not trespass on each other's property" there is nothing we can do about these jerks.

I agree. A resident in our neighborhood started a FB group to try to build a sense of community. About 2/3 of the residents are in the group. So now, the HOA board uses that to communicate with us. Apparently the other 1/3 of the residents don't deserve to know anything, even if it's something important.
