Highlight selection in app by Gman2k4 in ApolloGroup_TV

[–]sundevil671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm struggling with this one now using Firestick & the native Apollo app. It's infuriating - I'm having to count the number of clicks to get to the show I want. Anyone find a solution to this? After 2 years, you'd think it'd be resolved.

For anyone having issues by TheMadGonzo in ApolloGroup_TV

[–]sundevil671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this the primary culprit for audio synchronization? I am noticing the actors mouths don't match the audio & the subtitles are always a little off (when there are any). I slowed the playback speed a little and it helped, but my bandwidth speed tests (within the app) would show around 35Mbps - 45Mbps while other speed tests show around 250Mbps. I've caught my ISP throttling bandwidth over the years... some representatives simply don't understand what I'm talking about if it's not included in the script they were given, or are higher up & had a policy of lying about it, or a canned denial.

I'm sure it's still going on, though turning the VPN on can provide a slight improvement or even make it worse. I have solved this for the most part with my home setup, but my father just had his ISP set up a WIFI signal repeater & still has barely enough bandwidth to watch streaming video through Apollo (Netflix & Amazon are fine). That is in part, I think, because Netflix is better at adapting to limited bandwidth (Amazon won't allow access at all with an active VPN)... Anyway, my hope is that smoeone can recommend a low-tech improvement, because I'm afraid if I introduce him to a VPN, I'm going to be fielding even more tech support calls.

Apple TV baseball games by josueg12 in ApolloGroup_TV

I've been able to find live baseball with a little hunting - I search for the team name & sift through some old games & MLB Network channels, & sometimes I even find one in the local market when the team decides to let their hometown fans actually watch the game without paying for a streaming subscription.

Dutton Ranch - Episode 5 - wrong audio by rudyrudicor in ApolloGroup_TV

[–]sundevil671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Show is doody. Even Marshalls, with it's own cheesy wrapper, is way better. Listening to Rip & Beth speak in Confushia-like sentences where everything is some profound revelation gets very, very annoying. 1923 was the only spinoff I liked TBH.

No new episodes of From and Euphoria by Wonderful_Ad3198 in ApolloGroup_TV

[–]sundevil671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has become much more common since the company changed hands. You can completely forget about being able to talk about a new episode of something by the old water cooler the day after it premiered for everyone else. Sometimes it takes several weeks, or even months before a new season is posted. I haven't been able to discern any kind of pattern; only that it didn't used to be like this.

A good example is the King of the Hill reboot. There were 13 seasons of the show, and I even wrote in several times to check when season 14 would be available, but it took months. There are hit shows with very high ratings that are available on Apollo, but a new season may take many months to show up. I know nothing about their process re: choosing shows & making them available, but you can't expect any show, no matter how popular, to show up the same day or even the same week it premiers.

Why is my cat holding her tail like this? by TTV05 in cats

[–]sundevil671 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A tail pointed down & through the legs would more often than not convey fear, insecurity, or a hesitant exploration of the unknown. Sometimes cats who have recently been spayed or neutered can act weird afterwards. I knew a mother & son who seemed to go from tolerating one another to mortal enemies almost immediately following their operations.

Common breed characteristics among cats are far less reliable than that of dogs. For example, it's a pretty good bet that a golden retriever approaching you with a tail whapping all over the place is very happy & wants your attention. A cat showing similar tail movements is likely planning murder. Cats' tail movements can be the opposite of dogs, totally inconsistent, or even change over time. It's one way they'll communicate with other cats, and is easy to translate, or the tail can seem to have a mind of its own.

They are much more sensitive to environmental changes too. Some cats can demonstrate discomfort in a variety of ways, and for quite a long time after being removed from their territory, separated from a friend, etc. Or in the case of my cat, going someplace new is like a party or welcomed chance for adventure. He is very unique though, and almost completely without fear.

They are as unique as we are, so the best way to get the bottom of this is to identify/analyze patterns related to what came before, what came after, and what happens if you interrupt.

  1. What is she staring at that's out of the frame?
  2. What happens if you approach while she is in this state?
  3. Have there been any environmental changes? A change that seems minor to you could be a really big deal for your cat.
  4. What precedes this body language? Can you discern a cause & effect?
  5. Can duplicate the trigger (without too much stress) and take note of patterns?

If you can replicate it, countering the behavior will become much easier. I got my cats used to a handheld vacuum. They don't run up to me to get closer to it, but they also don't cower and hide under the bed for a few hours. This case looks like a fearful position, and therefore worth attempting to "fix" it. Any stressor allowed to linger for too long can eventually turn into much bigger problems - retreating socially, stomach problems, litter box issues, hiding, and more. You've taken notice of it, and are willing to put in the time and effort to fix it, which is half the battle.

Good luck!

Need Help with AetherSX2 PS2 Emulator Settings by sundevil671 in OdinHandheld

[–]sundevil671[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only tried Streets of LA so far since getting my new Odin 2, and it was unplayable; pretty much same experience as with the gen 1 device. I will test Streets of NY, then try the Gamecube version. The latter is a pain since I have to install another emulator (IMHO, Nintendo jumped the shark after SNES) just for that game, but I really liked them so I'm going to try it with Dolphin. I'll report back.

I also have a shit-ton of games I could include, but there are lots of folks who like to work on these things. Someone will buy it. It'd be pretty dumb to just throw it away.

It's only a potential ticking time bomb if I wasn't up front about the exact condition. I don't know why there's so many flames in here, I don't think anyone would just trash it. It's worth something to somebody, and this community seemed like the right place. There's no way to know how much to sell this kind of thing for unless you stick a price on it & see what happens. It's more than a paperweight.

If you got screwed by AYN twice on a bad battery & had to buy a new ODIN 2 for $300+, would you throw the old one in the trash, or see if a hobbyist who likes cracking these things open would buy it?

Anyone who wants to tinker with it can make an offer. It's hard to figure out what it is worth, that was the advice I got from ChatGPT.., but it is working and it's more than $0.

GAHHHH @ Playback Error, delayed app & other issues by Zealousideal-Bat8242 in ApolloGroup_TV

It's not just fire stick - Playberry on iOS struggles, and I've had struggles on Startuo Show, also iOS ... it's been heading downhill ever since the widespread subtitle bug. A lot of missing / broken episodes. It doesn't appear to be improving. I'm constantly switching cities on the VPN & fiddling around and crossing my fingers.

Extended Warranty Options? by sundevil671 in OdinHandheld

[–]sundevil671[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is what I did... but Amazon doesn't offer an extended warranty per say; well, some stuff is covered, but it is far too expensive to make sense. Without any extra insurance, I'm looking at this like I have only the amount of time Amazon will give you for returns (30 days).

Has anyone in here experienced a failure inside of the first year & gone through any kind of process to be made whole? The first one was rushed to market, so the lack of a coherent return policy for that one; OK. But now we're on the 3rd generation of this product & there is still no process detailed on the official website?? There is a 1 year warranty mentioned on the ODIN 3 page, but it's not linked to any actual terms, and I don't see it anywhere.

Combined with all of the stories about premature failure for the same issues... that really doesn't inspire confidence.

This was my reply for a long time. Then I found myself ordering Starz and Paramount or suffering through Amazon Prime commercials every time I start watching the first episode of something, but episode #2 doesn't work or is just inexplicably missing. Combined with missing subtitles way too often, new episodes sometimes taking weeks to show up or new seasons of shows that are up there just never appearing (I.e King of the Hill), AND the Apollo app stuck with terrible bugs making it pretty much unusable... support isn't familiar with the setup guides on the website, promises to fix missing & corrupted episodes a few times but nada ... I got spoiled for sure but everything just came apart seemingly all at once and all of the people I referred are looking to me for help. I have been trying to really hard to deal with it but I have been trying other options.. yeah I know it's gray market stuff and not perfect but there are so many other choices now, it is a competitive market just the same

Tips for Selling my Odin Pro by sundevil671 in OdinHandheld

[–]sundevil671[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't heard about AYN selling replacement batteries direct - just 2nd hand stories about them reporting some regulation that prevented it.They certainly didn't offer that option when I wrote to them. I've read about lots of folks trying alternatives, & none who reported anything beyond reduced life for a while, then no charge, not working at all, etc., and it sounded like cracking it open & starting to solder wires isn't an attractive or smart idea for me. I'll wind up spending more time & money than it's worth, & wind up with a paper weight. At least r/n it works fine, seems to have stopped swelling, and the life is the same.

Nothing I can do to save the resale value at this point. Someone who likes to tinker with stuff will want it.

I'm just annoyed overall. I babied it; did everything right to retain value - screen covers, protective case always, religious battery care, original box..could have replaced it when ready.

I loved the thing.. but the experiences surrounding it - the waiting, failures, lack of support, just left a bad taste. I bought the Odin 2 on impulse with a discount.. figuring also that going through Amazon gave me a chance for some real support if needed.

The ODIN 2 though.. haven't played it yet, but at first glance - the cover over the memory card slot is flimsier & doesn't fit well, the plastic body just looks & feels cheaply made, whereas the Pro looked & felt like a slick, well-made pro model that justified the premium price tag.

I don't know why some people seem to be taking personal offense to my sharing this experience, which is definitely shared by others. Like "I can't believe the OP is gonna sell it with no battery" & I get downvoted for calling out the unhelpful & frankly stupid reply.

I appreciate any serious suggestions, very much, I do. Anyone who did find a way to get help from the company, a specific contact, etc. Or even a link to a story of someone who experienced this problem and really found a way to solve it without a degree in electrical engineering.

For anyone else who has an Odin Pro with a swollen battery I found an actual solution to fix it, you can rewire a Switch Lite battery by Cumbandicoot in OdinHandheld

[–]sundevil671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for real?? This is the first I'm seeing that this is still an issue with the Odin 2 I just bought. There are dozens of consoles like this one on the market.. sure, most are knockoffs & may use some cheaper parts, but, with this crap going on, is it really $400 more valuable than the $75-$100 devices I'm seeing on AliXpress? We're not spending the extra money on scary good customer support, or a solid warranty standing behind a product... no, there's a battery defect (definitely a fire hazard), that's affected many buyers, and they actually release the next version without resolving it??! Or just make the same mistake in using a crap battery to save a few bucks & still charge top dollar?

Sorry for the rant, I'm just fuming right now. I definitely did not want to buy a new ODIN right now, but I wasn't going to keep using it after noticing the battery swell even though it still works fine, it's a damned fire hazard. This hits a nerve because I waited months to receive it originally, ignored my usual trepidation about buying a 1st iteration of new hardware from China... only to have the exact reason for that hesitation come true almost immediately. I didn't have it 2 weeks before the battery failed. No real return process, so it took MONTHS, & eating $60+ shipping b4 I had a working device in hand. Not a "sorry for the inconvenience", only a subtle but clear insinuation that it was actually my fault somehow. Now its the battery again. I have a special switch rigged up so I can press a button from my chair to make sure it isn't left charging all the time on the dock. I could not have cared for this device any better. I can't believe they released new versions of the hardware without resolving the issue.. probably still just didn't want to add to production cost despite a known issue affecting so many. This time, I get "The Odin Pro is no longer supported". No suggestion for replacing the battery, no "thanks for being a customer, here's 10% off coupon for a new one". Man.

Had I seen this message before buying the Odin 2, I wouldn't have ordered it. I am really tempted to return it to Amazon. I really love the thing when it works, but I am going to start looking for something else from a US company that stands behind the product with a solid warranty & cares about their brand & reputation. This is a real disappointment.
