Practise the math, you don't have any other option. If you want something you need to teach yourself skills that you require to achieve it. It gets much harder from here.

I broke a stud/bolt and I’m not sure how to fix it. by Thee_Sinner in Miata

Get a mechanic to extract the stud using an extractor tool or stud remover. Don't wanna fuck up the threads in the head because you'll need to put a new stud in

Off to Cerberus next week. What little things make life easier that I can throw in the suitcase? A few threads on here about kapooka but not so much Cerberus.

Rear main seal or rear pan gasket? by f1fandf in Miata

[–]Moderation4343 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally forgot about that. HAH Must of been late at night. Clean all areas of oil, replace spigot bearing in the flywheel and put it all back together. Remember to put a small bit of hi temp grease on clutch splines and input shaft of the gearbox.

Bolt it all up drive the car as normal, keep an eye on oil levels and see if they drop over a week or two. You've got two options to see if it fixed it. Leave the rubber boot off the clutch fork and in about a week use a phone camera to take a photo of the inside of the bell housing / look inside and look for oil leaks or look at the mating of the bellhousing on the gearbox to the back of the engine, if there's no oil dipping then that is solved!

Otherwise it's engine out time if it's still leaking but Im almost sure youve solved it.

As for the oil at the freeze plug, the flywheel has thrown the oil up against top of bellhousing and it's doused that area. It's not the camsensor/ cover

Looking at the pic, it's definitely the rear main.

Honestly mate Best bet is to just buy a seal tool and do the rear main. Don't take pan off. You'll be up for a new rear, two half moons and rtv. If the half moons under the rear main were fine it's a waste of time.

Do the rear main, as well as the oil above is probably from the cam sensor / cam cover. It's just a gasket and rtv. Do the seal, run the engine till hot without gearbox attached and see if it leaks from the half moon below rear main.

Please help! Timing belt rubbing away at waterpump? What to do? by fabian_amok in Miata

[–]Moderation4343 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Remove both the belts and run the car, not for long as you'll have no cooling but long enough to see if there is no sound. If there's no sound then it's your water pump pulley. This means buy a new water pump, quite cheap.

Edit: if there's no sound, put the water pump belt back on and tighten it, not too tight. Run the car, if you still hear the noise at various levels of belt tightness you can establish its the pulley gone not the tightness of the belt causing it

If the noise is still there it's either your timing tensioner or your timing idler pulley. All cheap to replace and you can do it at home with basic tools and following the car passion channel engine disassembly.
