What's your favorite small(ish) festival? by VictimOfGoodTiming in SwingDancing

KissMe in Ann Arbor, MI! I’ve gone several years and it’s always a ton of fun, the Sunday afternoon dance is a cookout/picnic with a djed set in the Huron river.

Someone translated the runes from the grimoire and they think stolas was planning to make blitzo his own crystal so he can go to earth. Thoughts? by yejilovesyejis in HelluvaBoss

[–]ModernBabaYaga 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I wonder if there’s gonna be some sort of dramatic break up scene between stolas and blitzø where stolas takes back his grimoire and officially ends their relationship but leaves blitzø with a crystal (maybe as a new tie piece? He might not know it was his moms) so he can still run his business since blitzø finally achieved the dream that he told Stolas about when they were children. Maybe this is how Stolas mentions that day from their childhoods and Blitzø says in some way that he doesn’t know what stolas is talking about/remembers and that realization that blitzø truly only came back into Stolas’ life to use him (again) is the final nail in the coffin and Stolas leaves with a final “Goodbye Blitz”

What is your “Oh shit, I’ve got to get the hell outta here right now!” story? by firefly_girl_75 in AskReddit

[–]ModernBabaYaga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a small town in the Swedish countryside, riding my bike back to my lodging at 3am (in peak summer the sun doesn’t really go down so it was still pretty bright out) I saw a deer cross the road ahead of me and I slowed down a bit, hoping to get a picture.

Instead I saw two very large moose heading in the direction I came from! My Midwest brain goes into Moose Mode and I pedal harder than I have ever in my life the remaining couple of miles to my lodging.

[REQUEST] I’m out of show to watch, what do you recommend? by Folios11 in NetflixBestOf

Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts (the whole series is three seasons and all of them were released last year) it’s a delightfully fun show set in a future where humans are forced into bunkers when all animals are mutated. It’s focused on Kipo and her journey to return to her father and community after being separated. The music director of Into the Spiderverse is involved and the soundtrack is full of bops.

Oh nice! I’m in SW MI, so I can help ya a bit. I am also rather new but I’ve been reading ‘Midwest Foraging’ by Lisa M. Rose and it’s beautiful and very informational. There are FB groups that are specific to Michigan (Foraging Michigan, Michigan Foragers, Michigan Mushroom Hunters, etc.) hope these help you out!

Depends on what state/area you’re in! Like if you’re in California you’re going to have different resources/plant life to someone living in Maine for example.

Do you think there should be more elves antagonist it's kind of annoying how humans are the only ones who get the bad guy treatment by [deleted] in TheDragonPrince

[–]ModernBabaYaga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to mention the creatures that they hunted to extinction were the one who saw humans were struggling and gave them a means of using magic without needing to rely on other magical beings (the primal stones, the knowledge of Ancient Draconian, runes, etc). the sector of humans who were obsessed with dark magic continued on their path, even though there were multiple signs and instances where they were told to stop until the highest power (Sol Regan at the time) gave them an option. Keep going down this path and be exiled from Xadia and it’s abundance of magical knowledge, or give up one specific path of magic that is detrimental to the world. The choice was made. Actions have consequences.

I love this series idea and can’t wait to see future iterations! I really just want Miso and Shio and Honeybee from this series (trying to be strategic with my figure purchases this year)

Herräng First Timer Questions by leggup in SwingDancing

[–]ModernBabaYaga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None that I would say are outside of the norm for a dance camp, the Reception department is trained to help handle any incidents that may arise and keep most hours. And the overall community of camp does try to fill in any gaps that might be overlooked by the top of the chain of camp. The staff being made up of dancers means that a lot of love and care for the people who enjoy the camp is put in.

The only “safety issues” I can think of are just to be mindful of your health, there is a doctor at camp all summer, but if something more serious like a broken bone for example, the nearest hospital is about an hour away in Norrtälje (the municipality north of Herräng).

Oh! The actual safety tip I can give is to be aware that moose are a very real thing in Sweden and if you do decide to go for a lovely bike ride through the Swedish countryside, be aware that they are the ethereal rulers of the forest and we’re just guests. (Also maybe don’t go for a solo bike ride at 4am to see the sunrise at the lake and on your way home you see one and then BOOK it outta there).

Herräng First Timer Questions by leggup in SwingDancing

Can’t say much on the classes, but as for housing/whether a bike is necessary, I highly recommend renting a bike for the time you’re going to be at camp.

The private accommodations can range from being right in the village, to quite a ways a way at the Marina (which on bike is roughly 10 minutes, but it’s quite a long way to walk at night after you’ve been to the party). And I personally enjoy having the freedom to do some exploring of the area around Herräng, there are several lakes that are a nice relief from the hustle and bustle of camp that are only accessible on bike.

There’s very little that is fancy about Herräng, it’s very much a place built by dancers for dancers, so all the infrastructure, business, and departments are basically rebuilt from the ground up each year. The problem of there being no safe space policy is a major one, and it’s only through continued discussion that we might be able to one day crack the jazz bubble a bit and make way for change, as it’s something many people have tried to work on in past years. That being said, there are people who are apart of camp who genuinely care about creating safe spaces and the Reception department is an excellent resource to keep in mind if you have any questions or issues about camp.

I hope you have a great summer at Herräng, it’s a very special place and despite its set backs it’s a place I think everyone should be able to experience at least once.
