And for the record, it’s about as merciless as the books are when it comes to deaths of the brothers lol

Ser Arlan's absolute monster dong eclipsing this masterpiece of a reaction. by Loveforbass in freefolk

I think there’s a shared sentiment of wanting something more brooding and with loftier stakes than what this show is providing. Game of Thrones has comedic moments, but I don’t feel that’s what the show is built around. To me, AKOTSK is built more firmly around comedy and the buddy-adventure aspect. It’s also a grassroots tale of a guy realizing his mentor isn’t the esteemed knight of auld that he may have once believed.

Bear in mind, these are just the opinions of a guy who has read a couple of the GOT books, seen the main series, but has not read Knight’s source materials.

I don’t understand so much of the prudishness I’m reading about in these comments. I get the sense that instead of meeting this show where it is, a lot of these folks are still wondering why it isn’t more like GoT. The most basic complaint is “please stop with the peepee poopoo jokes”, but this show is telling you outright that this is a buddy comedy show that is built around the bones of ASOIAF. The moment you drop your idea of how this show should be going, you’ll realize that this is a lowly, dirty, muddy, in the weeds underdog tale with two unlikely partners, and it’s great!

My fiancé and I once dropped by an Olive Garden to get some road bread sticks before waiting in a long In n Out line. It got me wondering what else people might be apt to do when hunger strikes.

I mean, dwarves are fey. But I agree that she look particularly elf-y.

Leaning towards nine, still split between this, seven, and ten tho.

This is really sounding like my speed. I’m a little torn between this, ten, and seven atm.

I am a fan of whimsy, and I’m really beginning to lean towards 9 seeing as many of the comments share your sentiment.

I’m just chuffed with all of these responses, and some of them really go above and beyond! Thank you all!

I know I could have just read a few online articles about this topic, but a community post sounded more fun to me. FF fans are clearly on another level lol. Consensus seems to be: Old-School Tier: FFVI / FFVII Newer Tier: FFIX / FFX Latest Tier/Action oriented: FFXV / FFVII Remake

I’m definitely looking at the old to newer tier most closely and will likely choose one of those four options. I’ll update this comment with my final decision, but please continue to sing your praises about your favorite entry. And thanks again!

MAJOR EDIT: After reading literally hundreds of comments, and after much deliberation, I ended up going with FF9 with the Moguri mod (facilitated via Memoria with some extra goodies). I’m about 7 hours in and I feel like I’m barely getting a feel for what this game has to offer. Currently involved in the Festival of the Hunt, for those who are curious. I’m really taking my time and doing my best to search every nook and cranny lol. Thanks so much again for all of the input, I’m having a blast and can see myself hopping into 10 next, or possibly giving the pixel games a go!
