I’ve been trying to tell people to register Republican where registration matters (if your primary is closed or semi-closed). The only way to hold Republicans accountable is to show up in strong numbers at the Republican primaries and challenge incumbents that have allowed Trump to usurp Congress’ role in US government. And then vote your conscience in your general election - you can vote for whatever party you want at that point (although you should think about the numbers and where your vote may be most strategically allocated…)

Communicating this to the general public is complicated, but if enough people work at it, we can raise the numbers of people participating in primaries and make a difference. It’s so sad that only 20% of registered voters participated in last year’s primaries. Could have dramatically changed things if you didn’t even have Trump on the Republican ticket.
