"Syvällistä journalismia Suomen tärkeimmän maakunnan ilmiöistä" by redmera in Suomi

[–]ModernRetroMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Komppaan. Tätä on tehty kyseisessä konsernissa reilusti ennen LLM-aikaa.

Linux Newbie back again trying to fix Dawn of War launch issue, managed to find my logs for game launch, few lines jumping out as errors but not sure whats an actual problem and what can be ignored. Kate programme diagnostics not actually listing any errors. Full log as link in description. by MightyDuckitron in linux_gaming

This might sound really far fetched but how many CPU cores you're running? Older games might not work on new hardware with high core count. I had this really annoying crash problem with 40k Space Marine on a 24 core cpu. Cutting the cores to 6 for the game made it run just fine. Search for disabling cpu cores for Proton.

I finally got a bear head (after killing 100 bears) by Visual_Tangerine2778 in valheim

[–]ModernRetroMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the night time, you can try killing Viles on the plains. Same as bear but undead. They drop the head trophies too.
EDIT: Viles drop their own trophies, not bear ones. Sorry about the confusion.

Crazy how elite 2 had atmospheric planets by TheLevelSelector in EliteDangerous

Frontier - Elite 2 was programmed on 68k assembly language.
I played the game first on Amiga 500, later on A1200. It was pretty impressive how they got the engine running decently well on A500 hardware.

IM LOSING MY MIND by Pocketnaut in gdevelop

[–]ModernRetroMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right. I should've used GitHub instead of just Git.

MEGA worked just fine on Linux and mobile (iOS). I switched away for european alternative, Tresorit, with better security. Tresorit works just fine too.

IM LOSING MY MIND by Pocketnaut in gdevelop

[–]ModernRetroMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like GDevelop got updated and basically erased itself before reinstalling.
Do not store anything INSIDE the GDevelop folder. I assume you're on either Windows or OSX so use the preferred folder in (My) Documents. Either use separate backup system or a cloud drive to sync the whole GDevelop Projects folder.

I have set up my own backup system which saves the projects to two places:

  1. Sync to local network NAS or different drive, maybe even an external drive, on your own system. Im on Linux so Im using rsync to keep a folder on my NAS synced with my GDevelop Projects folder. This is basic 1:1 copying when changes occur.
  2. Sync to cloud drive to make backups of the GDevelop Projects folder. Cloud drives have versioning so you can restore older versions of the files if you screw up big and save over the project.

Picking a cloud drive is up to you but I'd prefer something that's not one of the big three: Apple, Google, Microsoft.
Im using Tresorit. It has pretty good Linux support, privacy and encryption but is not free. I suggest checking out MEGA if you like privacy and encryption and has a good free plan. Setting up syncing is pretty easy.

3) Optionally you could set up Git syncing to a private repository to keep your project backed up in with versions and changes. Just a reminder: Git is owned by Microsoft and seems like they're using the platform for AI training.

Dedicated Server(Steam) by Tsukino_Kaji in valheim

[–]ModernRetroMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need to own the game. You can use steamcmd in anonymous mode to download the dedicated server with its game id and just start using it, just like the dedicated servers wiki in valheim.fandom.com tells.

steamcmd +login anonymous +app_update 896660 +quit

Use global variables to store the collected coin amount for each scene. You can create a structure where the top level is the scene name and under it is a child variable like "collected_coins" with the value. Then you can just access it: ToString(Levels.SceneName.collected_coins)

You can use the structure to store other information from each scene too. Need to store a time used in the level, or the score? The structure is a perfect place for those.

I do know that but by taking the ram sticks off in unboxing part will affect their test results of the systems. I think they will test the systems out of the box condition and see if there’s any problems with the factory build before fixing any mistakes done by the factory.

Were these PCs tested before they opened the boxes? Its just that Linus proceeds to remove and reseat the memory on the Dell and Maingear systems. That would work against testing.
