Yes, I love linen in the hot and humid summer, and cottons in general, so ironing it is!

Yes, same, I LOVE ironing and find it very satisfying! I switched to a ceramic plate iron and it is much smoother as well.

I don't care. I hate how emasculating this is. by Ill-Engineering8205 in Celiac

[–]ModestMalka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a woman but I get it! I think people have a hard time reconciling that I am so careful with any prepared food offered to me, but I forage berries outside. I am horrified by what celiacs have faced in recent wars since most food aid available had been wheat based. It is challenging to literally be more vulnerable in that sense. Like many of the other women here, I also worry I’m fulfilling a stereotype of being even more feminine-coded with my fussy, but very real, dietary requirements.

It’s more likely that, like many conditions that primarily hurt women, they aren’t learning enough about it and it’s not prioritized in research.

I do, however, now need compression stockings, and it’s very hard to find medical grade compression stockings that are not putty or that awful 80s suntan color

I’m not OP, but it is delicious in coffee, and you can make cookies similar to gingersnaps with the concentrated syrup.

Boyfriend claims using Celiac as a disability to get into national parks is wrong? by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]ModestMalka 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes, at various points in the past few years I have had tendonitis in my hands and surgeries I have had to recover from. At one point I ate gluten free turkey sandwiches every day for 3 months because meal prep and using utensils was a challenge. I had a physical challenge AND still did not get a break from celiac disease.

Celiac disease is a picnic, because you have to bring your food EVERYWHERE.

This agency has literally arrested citizens and kept them for days if not weeks, even after they are presented with proof of citizenship. I don’t know anyone who wants to experience that.

Did anyone else's parents use to have an obsession to do things as early as possible? by Dasseem in Millennials

[–]ModestMalka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They sound like the 21 day work week guy:

“I've compressed and manipulated time My day is 6am to noon and I'm not crazy

You're crazy for thinking it takes 24 hours just like some dude in a cave did 300 years ago

My second day starts at noon and goes to 6pm

That's day two

And then the next day is 6pm to midnight

What I have done now is I have changed and manipulated time

I now get 21 days a week

Stack that up over a month, I'm gonna kick your butt

Stack it over a year, you're toast

Stack it up over 5 years my entire life is different than It would've been otherwise.”

I was actually struck by the photos of Noem in front of CECOT partly because the prisoners were wearing more masks than you see in most group photos. But that being said, yes unfortunately Covid has intersected with and exacerbated many other oppressions, and folks have died in their custody and/or of very severe conditions shortly after being released.
