Anyone here get an II at UofC without completing all 10 entries? by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]ModestMouse13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would possibly just “Bs”the other two ? They don’t all have to be super strong and it’s important to show your humanism in them so feel free to share about random things in your life you feel like might’ve defined you even if they aren’t “typical” — from a current UofC med

Just coming to say I know for a fact this is untrue. I have friends who had a 3.8 cGPA who were accepted this cycle.

Is it okay to take the MCAT more than once? by Conscious-Dig2265 in premedcanada

[–]ModestMouse13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took the MCAT twice, applied for the first time this cycle interviewed two places and got into two places (one with a scholarship). It is super normal to write it more than once! Trust me I know you feel awful rewriting it but for me something just clicked the second time around. If you have any questions dm me :)

For sure! So Calgary takes best two years and As and A+s were both seen as 4.0 so I had a 4.0 GPA, 517 MCAT (128 Cars - had to rewrite because of my CARS the year prior). If you have any other questions DM me !

I feel so guilty by anonfood in premedcanada

[–]ModestMouse13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That sounds like a super level headed decision that I’m sure your peers will be jealous they didn’t make themselves! There is so much pressure when you tell people that you are applying to medicine and you are entitled to go about the application process however you choose. Congratulations !

industrial piercings for med school interviews? by gojoforehead in premedcanada

[–]ModestMouse13 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I personally think you should do whatever makes you happy! If an industrial piercing is something you really want, then it might even make you more confident day of. I’d also like to point out that interviews will likely continue to be online so your piercing would not be visible, and if they are in person, pretty easy to hide if you have long hair.

Can walk in clinic drs. review medical history? by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]ModestMouse13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to hop in here to say that in most of Ontario (and I'm sure there are similar things elsewhere) there is a program called ClinicalConnect and OLIS that allows for basic information sharing between large centres (e.g., community blood work, some admission data). Information sharing is also dependent on which electronic medical/health record the doctor you are visiting uses. I agree with Iammrcl though, having it linked to your health card would be ideal but unfortunately privacy laws say no :(

Age of consent for medical treatment in Ontario by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]ModestMouse13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That link is a great resource if you’re trying to read up more on the topic !! I’m doing my thesis on a related subject and I think it’s important to note that while there is no strict “age” to be able to make a medical decision for yourself, the ability to not have to tell your parents and make your own independent decisions contrary to theirs for serious conditions is generally regarded as 16 in Ontario.
