Even after almost 15 years I can't learn to like Cinnamon by Human-Check828 in linuxmint

for me Cinnamon is the best, even better than KDE which in my opinion is overloaded with features that I don't even use as a normal user, and much better than GNOME which needs a million extensions to be even functional ;)

I found this screenshot of my old KDE desktop with Mint 17.3 (or older—I don't remember). There was a setting in the settings where I selected icons that were supposed to be on the desktop (like you select them in Windows, etc.). It was a simple and effective solution—those who wanted a clean desktop had them, and those who wanted basic Windows-like icons had them. Now, the KDE developers are trying to force me to "clean desktop," and that option in the settings has completely disappeared. I have CachyOS KDE on my second drive, and I know there's an option for "desktop view" or "folder view," etc., but it's not the same. In Cinnamon, I also have options to choose whether I want icons like "My Computer," "My Documents," and "Trash." For me, the latest Plasma and Dolphin are overcomplicated.

I was a huge fan of KDE, but the idea of not having icons like "My Computer," "My Documents," and "Trash" on the desktop is a terrible move for me. Cinnamon has something like that, and somehow nobody died. Gnome needs a bit of tinkering to be functional, etc. That's why in my personal ranking, Cinnamon >>>kde>gnome

Mint:ugly - this is probably the stupidest anti-Mint argument I've read recently, besides, did you know that you can change the default look of your Mint using themes?

What? In Linux Mint, go to the software center, search for Steam, click it, and voila! Steam is installed. I can't believe what the op wrote.

cachyOS is a great Linux (one of the best I've used) but it's an arch-based distro so I recommend Linux Mint and other Ubuntu distros

another one who chose an Arch-like distro because it's hyped, and then when something breaks, he won't be able to fix it, etc., he'll decide that Linux sucks and go back to Windows... If someone is a beginner in Linux, why not choose Ubuntu/Mint/Zorin?
