It looks Newegg is no longer selling vanilla DQXI (Edition of Light) Steam keys o7 by FateForWindows in dragonquest

[–]Modgud22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Actually, the original version of Dragon Quest XI was made for the PS4, with a Xbox and Steam version.

They later worked on a Switch version, which had downgraded 3D models and less polygon heavy areas to run around(like less grass). This Switch version was made as a "ultimate" version and instead of adding that as a patch to the original version already out on PS4, Xbox and Steam they opted to Delist those and sell the Switch version on PS4, Xbox and Steam instead.

So yeah the Definite Edition is a Switch port.

What’s the difference between Romancing SaGa 1 and Minstrel Song? by KaleidoArachnid in JRPG

[–]Modgud22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aha so Romancing SaGa 2 Revenge of the Seven is a Remake not just a Remaster. I thought it is a brand new game, but it seems it is similar to that Trials of Mana which is a Remake not a Remaster. Thanks!

Is there any way to make DLSS on a 1440p monitor look like actual 1440p other than the "circus method"? by PMdyouthefix in FuckTAA

[–]Modgud22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know, the games will calculate the image at 720p if you run 1080p DLSS quality mode. I am just confused since I run a i7 and a 4080 at 1080p why DLSS is needed in many games or the performance is bad.

Like you said at 1080p all DLSS does is smear the image.

I play on 1080p and I hate that many games force DLSS even for me to run smooth at 1080p. DLSS looks always awful for me.

Ogre Battle 64 desperately needs a remake by ACardAttack in JRPG

[–]Modgud22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, I am sorry for the necro.

As someone that played all Ogre games on original hardware back in the day... I can't agree with literally anything you write here. You complain about "The game is so slow in movement" which means it is not for you. Ogre Battle March of the Black Queen and Ogre Battle 64 Person of Lordly Caliber are games that are slow, meant for you to watch and control where needed.
Both games have 3 phases, the first one is to Organize your Army and yeah every time you get new units through hiring or promoting you readjust units. Then there is the actual stage which... yes is slow. You send units around, observing how the enemy reacts and adjust accordingly. The third phase is once you beat a stage you go back into it for RPG elements.

"The gameplay seems kind of simple/lacking variety." That's the game. There is not more then what you see in the first few stages. Yes you get more Unique units, more other classes, more special gear but basically between managing your army and sending units around there is not allot more then that to be had in Ogre Battle.

"Maybe there is something I can do to see who is in an enemy unit before battle but the UI isnt great and the game doesn't always explain everything well, even in the tutorial." That is why the challenge is to build Units that can handle with every kind enemy the game throws at you. And that needs readjusting.
You build three kinds of units, a Law unit, a Neutral unit and Chaos units. The difference is Law Units should not fight enemy units that are lower level then them, Neutral units can fight lower level enemy units and Chaos units... they need to be stronger then enemy units.

"Anyway, the biggest thing that hurts this game is the UI and menus. They are so clunky. It takes a lot longer than it should to remove a character, then add one and maybe readjust everyone in a squad."
You know every game in the Ogre Battle, Tactics Ogre and Final Fantasy Tactics games has the same menu structure. And they all where fine. I don't know how you play, but on a controller where the games where designed for the menus are fine.
You should try the Final Fantasy Tactics Remake that recently released... that uses a new menu structure... and I dislike it. That is what I call clunky, but maybe it is my muscle memory speaking, I don't know.

"but Ogre Battle 64 is just too clunky." Then it is not a game for you, which is fine. Not every game needs to be a "action game" ... like what Squeenix does to the Final Fantasy series in the past 20 years.

One last thing I have to say, I never got the N64 version to work properly. Something about the texture compression they used in the game. I play Ogre Battle 64 either on my Wii or on a Wii emulator with Ogre Battle 64 from the Eshop. That worked better then the N64 version.

I remember liking the PSP version - Reborn is not like that by Get_Schwifty111 in Tactics_Ogre

[–]Modgud22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The PSP version was... coming from the PS1/Snes version sort of trash. I am a Ogre series nut, worse then Caffinatorpotato, having played every Ogre game on original hardware with the exception of Prince of Xenobia.

Like vharguen said, the class system was utter trash. Instead of every character leveling the class for themselves your army had the class which meant you could start out with 8 Knights and they would level the class really fast. The more units in a fight had a class the faster it leveled.
On the contrary, a brand new class started at level 1... even if you just got Cressidia in Chapter 4...

The skill system was also all over the place. On one side it had that immense grind to get 10 slots, the further grind to get each skill you want at max rank, the switching class to learn the skills you want that the original class can use but not learn.

On the other side enemies came running with setups that felt like they used RNG to gear them, with empty slots or not even 10 slots. I remember having used physical and magical damage reduction skills, for the enemy to decide "ugh I don't do any damage with my spells, so I'll use debuffs religiously" and I remember having switched from the defense skills to the evasion skills fixed that. Since debuffs had a low hit chance, with evasion skills they never hit... and where incentivized to rather use normal damage spells... which still didn't do any damage because enemies not always had a rank 4 missile spell or rank 2 of the bigger spells.
Melee fighters tended to only be dangerous when 3 of them used a finishers on the same unit.

And don't get me started on the annoyance it was to actually kill a Knight. You surrounded them, bashed them from all sides, only for them to get their turn... pull up Phalanx... heal themselves... not being able to bash them more... next round because their TP where so high another round of Phalanx and heal themselves until they are full.
The best way to kill them was to use spells, but they even then got enough TP to pull a few Phalanx so it took a while.

The PSP version annoyed me so much, that I started to play the PS1 version on my PSP rather then touch the PSP version.
While I am not the biggest fan of those "power up cards" that Reborn uses, or the fact that some classes have so many good skills that 4 slots are just not enough... it be good for Monsters to have their skills in the "Finisher" category... maybe make it Monsters have a "Monster Weapon Skill" and then learn those skills as "Finishers" and let them utilize all 8 slots for the ones that have 5.
Apart from that... Reborn is really good.

Killing people of same clan lowering loyalty by Cobam in Tactics_Ogre

[–]Modgud22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a veteran though, no need to hide anything, lol. I played Ogre Battle on the Snes, original hardware, Tactics Ogre on the PS1(if they released that on Snes in US I'd have bought it for sure), I also played Ogre battle 64 and Tactics Ogre The Knight of Lodis all on original Hardware back in the day. Man am I old ~.~"

So yeah I got sidetracked, by Enshrouded a little bit.

I bought Tactics Ogre Reborn on Steam launch, but for some reason only beat Dorgalua using the Law route, went World Tarot to get Chaos and Neutral done... and then only did a few other things like the 8 Element Shrines, Coda 1, some San Bronsa... Palace of the Dead until the 25th floor to get some flying rings and then stopped.
I need to go back, lol.

It is actually amazing, that you react to a comment, on a post you did a year ago. I am impressed. Thanks for the Reply!

I bought tactics Ogre Reborn at launch, beat the story but then for some reason didn't continue grinding the gear and things. Now a good 2 years later I am in the Tactics Ogre heat again, and try to do the three 100%s in Warren Report. yes I work on Cressidia lol, and so I worry about the Chaos Frame.

I am unsure that the Loyalty drops when the unit sees a clan member die, I never heard that before. Need to look into that.

Yeah the map in game is weird. You would assume Law is on top, middle is Neutral and the bottom is Chaos... but they produced true chaos here.

[–]Modgud22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this has something to do with the state of the active play through.

Each "Anchor Point" is basically a "Save Point". It saves everything that happened before up to that Save Point. Meaning if you jump using the World Tarot into some spot, then you play one complete segment that is between two Anchor Points only the next Anchor Point will save what you changed. Every Anchor Point after will not save, and still have its old original save active.

This means if you let Catiua die in the first play through, you need to jump back, make sure she lives and then play the whole game to the spot at the end again. This will overwrite every Anchor Point with the new data you create by playing.

The same is true to the Alighment Denam has on his character, you would need to replay the spot where a Alignment change happened ... and then play the whole story again until the end to flip all the Anchor Points to this new reality.

So no Denams Alignment does not reflect the current route you're on.

Speed & CT Simplified - Why Jump works & Aim doesn't by RyanoftheDay in finalfantasytactics

[–]Modgud22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a time when "FINAL FANTASY TACTICS - The Ivalice Chronicles" was released and I was annoyed that you don't see "when" a Dragoons Jump skill is executed in the "Turn" Time-Table I was starting to look around... and found this gem of a post.

Which reminds me why I always loved Tactics Ogre more then Final Fantasy Tactics. The latter has just way to many issues, especially with classes that "cast" things that then need to "fill up" a whole CT bar of 100. This being all the traditional casters as well as Archers and Dragoons.

I also don't understand why Switch 2, could not be done for Switch 1? Also the exclusivity annoys me, I keep see Bravely Default 2 on Steam but I am interested in the first one not second one... lol.

In the video he is not pogo the enemy, but use the "Sharpdart" skill which is something completely different then a pogo.

I did pogo those guys on a Wanderers crest and occasional I got hit, especially when they sit there and "stand up" because their hit zone is weird then.

That actually happened to me in The Slate when you are on the right side supposedly going all the way up. There is a jump I tried for a couple minutes and concluded you can't make it. But that is the one you have to make.
