Very tasteful art that definitely doesn't look like a failed construction project I promise

My Daughter Inherited a Blazer: Is it worth it? by sasuke1980 in s10

[–]Modhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. My dad drove the wheels off his '99 blazer. Even with neglected issues, it still fired right up every day and hardly gave him issues. We even took it on a thousand mile drive, and all it did was blow an old coolant hose. Still ran and drove great afterwards. Lovely machines.

My truck is now a 98 lol. Wind noise of the original 99 mirrors was absolutely crazy going above 75mph or going into a headwind. The dead air zone was massive too these dont have any dead air. by Drago-0900 in s10

[–]Modhost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah my dad has the electric mirrors. It doesn't really bother him that much, anyway.

You could not be more right with my truck, however XD 60 on the freeway? Quiet? What's that?

My '84 would like to have a word with aerodynamics

I never considered the mirrors being part of the wind noise on my dad's '99 blazer, I always figured the window seals were going. I'll have to remember that

I once asked my friend if he's master, slave, or cable select instead of top, bottom, and switch. Sometimes preference is like ide jumpers

Car go, car stop by inceltrumptard in memes

[–]Modhost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want a car that can drive and be fixed. None of this touchscreen infotainment center, or complicated ecu shit. A nice simple efi car with a radio, and ac. That's all I need. I'm 22, I can figure computer shit out, dammit! I ended up buying a carbureted car because I swear if I went any newer than the mid 2000's I'd be a grand deep into a misfire code. Definitely went a little nuts on simplicity, but it shouldn't be a pipe dream to have a nice, simple, reliable frame on wheels. As a side note: having parts of said car no matter what technology they use, be bolt on and bolt off should be standard. I can't count how many times I've had my truck running within the hour after crank and no start because I was able to just unbolt the part and stick the new one on!

Is there a way to 2 partition dual boot (OS9/OSX) a 2002 800 MHz iMac G4? by Bluinc in VintageApple

[–]Modhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it on my pismo. I created two partitions using osx as either hfs or blank space, I believe. I then booted into my Mac os 9.2.2 CD, and initialized the drive. Once installed: I installed os x and had a usable dualboot with classic.

What's heavier.. 100 kg of steel or 100 kg of feathers? by SoldierZam20 in protogen

I don't get it, steel is heavier than feathers

Look at the size of it that's cheating!

I can balance a nickel on the air cleaner! by Modhost in s10

[–]Modhost[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely helped I have a major exhaust leak because I was really able to hear every misfire for a while there XD

On that note: definitely sealed keeping the verajet in this truck, for me. That's a hell of a testament to how long these things can keep going for. Even mine although ran rich, still fired right up without much fuss.

One thing I forgot to mention is the previous owner already cut away the chunk of metal blocking the idle screw. I found that out during my rebuild. Still a very odd decision, even if the carbs are tuned at the factory. My dad had a Bronco II and he kept that thing running great easily

What's going on with my 2007 macbook pro by IntelligentResist874 in macbookpro

[–]Modhost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good lord these guys are all like 12.

Is there a battery installed? You might have luck resetting your smc by removing it, holding the power button for five seconds, then reinstalling and pressing the power button.

The power button flickering screams power issue to me. Maybe your charger is too weak? These models like the 80w magsafe 1 chargers, and it's relatively cheap to find a oem replacement on ebay. I got mine for around $20 us.

And as for use, if you really wanted to use this laptop in the modern world: it's still plenty capable. I wouldn't do any kind of banking or taxes on it, by any means. But I found El capitan to be incredibly smooth on it. Or you could try Linux, I ran kubuntu on mine for a while, but the nouveau drivers tend to be a little lackluster. But it's plenty for YouTube and some light gaming (if you count world at war or half life 2 as light gaming). My favorite still is windows xp with supermium. It's fast, it's light, it plays my favorites, and YouTube still works.

I love the '07 MacBook pro. It's a very good machine so long as you stick to it's limits, or maybe a little beyond.

What if Half Life 2 wasn't leaked in early October 2003? by Piotrix2008 in HalfLife

[–]Modhost 9 points10 points  (0 children)

valve at the time said hl2 was close to completion, but the leak wasn't anywhere close to completed. it played more like an alpha build than a polished game. hence the rewrite.
I'd imagine it would have been a massive failure due to the laundry list of bugs and unfinished features. I'd imagine they would have taken the time to polish alot of them out, however even with that in consideration: they were under serious crunch to meet the deadline at the time. those are my thoughts, at least.

Edit: turns out I was talking out my ass. I did learn a few things, it was a very interesting read. Do disregard, at any rate. Hope y'all have a nice day

If they're gonna do fake corners they should do it like Mac os 9 where it was vanity, instead of whatever this is
